Does anyone have more information about the recliner?

I'm aware they were a GTO option only in 1966, in chevelles by 1967

anyone know how they work?
they're currently being shipped to me - i'll post pictures later

but i was curious if anyone has any experience with '66 or '67 reclining passenger seat before i take it apart and possibly damage something :)

i've no clue how they work - never seen one in person

thanks!

My understanding is that they (recliners) use some sort of "washers" on a shaft... These washers "bind" and cause the seat to remain in that position... kind of infinitely adjustible... Of course, I have heard there are problems when/if they wear out...

i know for sure, at least for GTO's that that isn't true
my '66 has a power driver's bucket and no recliner (not yet) per the build sheet - there's different option spots listed for headrests, recliner option and power driver's (all in a row)

meanwhile, my dad's 66 convertible has the recliner and not a power bucket - also confirmed by the build sheet

so, i suspect it isn't true for chevelles either
if you have a build sheet somewhere, the options are probably listed separately

i've heard that rumor a few times though - it's been dispelled for GTO's by now

I don't think the Recliner was offered in Chevelles, at least it wasn't an option in '66 for Chevelles...

As for the Builtsheet, even IF the the recliner was part of another package, wouldn't the individual options within that package would still be listed individually???

very good point, 1966 - i completely forgot they weren't in '66 chevelles

here's information from a '67 GTO build sheet (i assume chevelle is the same)

Option Code Notes Price
562 A51 Strato Bucket Seats std. —
564 A46 Power Seat — Bucket L.H. Only 69.51
568 A53 Strato Bench Seat Notchback Front Only N/C
Head Rests — L.H. & R.H Bucket Seats 52.66
571 A82 Head Rests — L.H. & R.H. Bench Seats 52.66
578 A70 Reclining Seat w/571, R.H. bucket only 84.26

you see the reclining option under 578

the notes say "w/571, RH bucket only"d

I believe this means you could buy headrests for 50 bucks or so
but for an extra 30 you could dget the recliner too

but, i think the key is that you can't get the recliner option without getting the headrests (but you could get headrests without recliner)

this stupid forum won't let me add in spaces to give that proper formatting - sorry for it being hard to read

anyways, i didn't know this about '67's...i need to pull out a build sheet from a '66 and see if it's something similar
