September 2001: My chevelle was wrecked.

November 2001: One last burnout before we took it apart piece by piece to replace the frame.

November 2006: IT'S ALIVE!!!!!

After 5 years of working on it, I spent the entire weekend behind the wheel. I am limited to daylight driving due to a lack of lights, but I still had a hell of a time. The frame sits below the center of the 17" cragars. The manual 12" disks stop it well. The 245/45/ZR17 turn lock to lock with the quick ratio box without hitting fenders or frame. The front and rear sway bars are 15/16" with Speedway 1000lb springs and screwjacks (the shorter ones only opened up 1/2") in the front and MOOG wagon springs in the rear. The bushings are all polygraphite but I dont know if they squeak or not because I cant hear anything over the noisy gear drive and open headers. I can tell its going to handle really well, it seems to hug corners like a slot car. I need an alignment though and I dont have any shocks. Which brings me to my question:

What shocks do y'all recomend? When I got this frame it had an old set of KYB Gas-A-Just on it. I might get another set of those or maybe Edelbrock or Koni. Anyone got something to say about this? I think I want something really stiff. I remember a magazine article that did a shock comparison on a Monte Carlo and they said that the IAS Edelbrock shock was better than the KYB b/c the KYB was too stiff, but I got 1000lb springs so I dont think too stiff will be a problem for me.

Now that u mention it, I do have a set of sensa-trac monroe shocks that I had installed but had to take off for the new springs. Ill buy a matching pair for the rear and call it a day, now I just gotta find em.

I was just looking at shocks earlier. If you want good and cheap go with Afco 1020 front / 1031 rear.

I had a similar post.

Good shocks in the $70 a pop range:

Hotchkis/Bilsteins

Afco "street stock" shocks: 1020 front and 1031 rear (specifically recommended by Stock Car Products for 900/175 springs, they will also work just fine with 750's up front)
If you wan to spend more there are many options.

These look sweet.

Those M2 shocks look like they would be more suited for use on my Xterra than on my 'velle. Off-roaders use the shocks with the remote reservoir b/c they supply the extra fluid needed for extreme suspension travel. Those aren't for a car are they?

Why would you want Monroe's if you like the Bilstein??

I spent $150 eaach on the bilstien a few years ago and they aare starting to get soft and they don't have a warranty covering them. For a daily driver, i'd rather go with something with similar performance and ten times better dependability.

Monroe shocks come with a lifetime warranty, but I believe they consider the "lifetime" of a shock to be 2 years or 20K.
