Is a high stall lock-up torque converter the best of both worlds?

I'm looking at buying a high stall (2000-2400 rpm)torque converter with a lock-up feature for my 200-4r. I have never had a high stall converter before and i was worried about slippage during around town driving and cruising. I currently have a stock lock-up torque converter with a B&M shift kit where I can switch between no lock-up, lock-up only in 4th gear and lock-up in each gear.

Am I thinking right when I think I can run the torque-converter unlocked when i want to get on it and then switch it to lock-up when I'm cruising or am I missing something here?

You got it Clyde, I run a 2400 stall in my 700 with a 4:10 rear. It is the best of both worlds.

Hight quality coverter is a must...I saw your other post and just remember you get what you pay for. Don't cheap out on the converter BTDT.

I also have a 2800 rpm stall lock-up convertor in my 200 4R, it is the best of both worlds.

I have the option of locking in 2nd and 3rd and of course 4th. I mainly use lock-up in 4th for cruising, but have cruised in 3rd with the torque locked, I did this on a highway that had a 45 mph speed limit for a long distance, my tranny shifts into 4th at 51 mph.

I don't recomend full throttle shifts with the torque locked, although some racers do it, I believe they have Built stall convertors with kevlar multi disc lockup clutchs.

My tranny runs 15*F cooler when locked and cruising in 4th. That should help it live a longer life.
