Must happen at least 4-6 times a night. Ill be surfing around and all of a sudden the computer freezes and then a pop up window says Internet Explorer has stopped working. I click the cancle button and I can continue on. What really pisses me off is when it does it in the middle of me typing a email or filling out online forms because I lose all the information I just entered. I dont know much about computers and how to get into the different programs and such. I just want the damn thing fixed.

What version of IE are you running? How many windows do you have open when this happens, when is the last time you've updated and ran antivirus. Also google malwarebytes download it and run it. You're computer may just have a ton of temporary files and bugs. Age of the computer could also be an issue here.

I know thats a ton of questions. But all this information will be helpful in pointing you in the right direction.

Im pretty sure I have IE9. Usually the ony window open is the page Im on at the time. I have the microsoft security esentials and run it often. It might have temp files but I dont know enough about computers to know whats what. Im always afraid of clearing stuff out because I dont want to lose something I wanted to save. My father in law suggested firefox and I do have google chrome but I dont like it at all but maybe there is a new version? This all started when I switched my verizon internet from the air card to the mi-fi device. I thought it was the verizon internet but it did it while using free internet at a hotle a few weeks ago and I didnt even have my verison modem so its not that.

I hate anything Microsoft, always full of their own spyware and constantly updating. I would go Mozilla or Google Chrome. Only bad part of Chrome is you can't send a link to your friends if you see a site or something and want to pass it on.

Windows / Microsoft / Windows IE= synonym for PIA!!!! Using Windows or M-soft stuff is like FIRST building your own cherry picker when you decide to pull the engine. This stuff , browsers and PC operating systems, are supposed to be tools to help you do a job NOT JOBS IN AND OF THEMSELVES!!!!!!

Sounds like your problem is related to your network or your internet connection not any specific piece of software. If you are running a wireless modem/router, how good of a signal do you typically have from where you are typically sitting?

X2

It can also freeze your computer, not just IE. I have recently dealt with this myself. As it turns out, the existing co-ax cable in our house is old mini cable, not adequate for sustained HD TV & heavy Internet usage. The trouble is especially maddening because we had the entire basement ceiling opened during renovations and could have changed it, but now it is all sealed up  Luckily there is some new RG11 cable run elsewhere in the house, so my modem & router operate off that run.

Sometimes the drivers for your wireless network card have a new, more reliable update available. You need to look it up on-line with specifics for your particular card & drivers.

We only have wifi and I cant remember where the router is to connect it to our wifi. Whats really frustrating is when Im doing job applications and it crashes. I can hit cancle and stay on the page but all the info I typed is gone. Does it when I post on here too.

Sounds like a Trojan is on your computer. What antivirus software are you using? Try using Google Chrome to see if the problem persists. If not check add ins in IE. disable what you don't need. After that, try running msconfig to determine what is loading in the background/at startup.

I have microsoft essentials or something like that. I have google chrome and tried it the other day for a while but nothing happened. Its so random its crazy. I dont know what "add ins' are or how to check them. Im really not good with computers beyong checking my mail and surfing the net. Same with the msconfig. Ill see what I can figure out tomorrow when Im playing with it.

So a little update. I downloaded Firefox and so far my computer seems to like it. Lately Ive been having problems getting online. Im connected but the IE wont connect. And when it does the pages load so slow. With firefox, the speed is night and day different and havent been kicked up since i started using it. My father in law suggested it and it works great.

This problem didnt start untill I switched from a internet aircard to a wifi modem. I had the same version of IE with both set ups. Wasnt a instant problem but shortly after switching. Its not the wifi though, had the same problem using a motels wifi. I have google chrome but dont like it and when IE wont load the internet, either will chrome. Tried it several times. Pretty happy with firefox though. Super fast and has a nice "history" feature.

i will never understand why Microsoft can't make their own programs work together- IE should tie seamlessly into Windows, but it causes nothing but problems on every computer i have access to on a daily basis... i've been running Firefox since version 1.something whenever possible and only use IE on the corporate intranet at work because my employer thought it was a good idea to let Microsoft handle the corporate email stuff a few months ago and it will not let me use Firefox to check my work email..
