as title says, now that the car is sleeping for winter its time for some work, i want new heads i have 2 local options:
Forsale freshly rebuilt set of camel hump 461 casting fuelie heads, 62cc combustion chambers, 1.94/1.50 valves,3 angle performance valve job, positive seals, bronze valve guide liners, resurfaced, Z28 valve springs. ready to bolt on $350 CASH.
OR
Vortec heads, Desirable 062 castings, complete with valves and springs,
70xxx km's $300 obo
now i found that the flow between the heads the vortecs win hands down!! but the fuelies need no work just bolt on a go, where as the vortecs need machining, springs, rockers, push rod guides etc etc. with that being said how much did you pay for your vortecs, and other parts you needed.
remember im trying to do things as cheap as possible as this is a hot rod built from junk yard parts, swap meets etc, im not trying to run 10s and never will with my little 350 but would like to run 13s eventually with the 350. What do you think the power differences are? What kind of power am i making now vs 461 vs the vortecs?
my current combo is:
L-65 chevy 350
stock heads/pistons/block
block casting #:3970014
cyl head #: 333882
performance plus cyclone intake
Elgin prostock cam w/
cam lift: INT=.311
EXH=.311
valve lift: INT=.467 EXH=.467
SAE duration: 280 INT.
280 EXH
.050 duration: 222 INT.222 EXH.
stock quadrajet carb 4bbl
hooker headers
HEI ignition
th350
peg leg 2:56
modifications are going to be:
posi 3:36 or 3:73s
3000 rpm stall
and heads (best choice)
I would like your opinions on what heads are most bang for the buck in my position. If you still prefer the vortecs ive read tons of information on them but i would like a complete parts list of what ill need to make this swap work from gaskets, bolts, springs, retainers everything to make the swap go as smooth as possible.
thanks
