I've gotten to the point where I cant stand listening to 10 minutes of commercials to hear 6 minutes of music. I exercise about an hour and a half every morning, then mow or do other things around the yard or garage wearing head phones a lot. I need other listening options. In my car I have Sirius radio so I just need something when I'm not driving. I tried the portable Sirius but it doesn't pick up very well in the yard and not at all in the garage. I don't have a "Smart phone" just a flip phone. Does anyone use IPODs anymore? If so, where do you get music to load onto them?
Nashville has the worst radio stations of anywhere I go, kind of ironic considering its "Music City". If I hear one more minute of "JOHN BOY AND BILLY" I'm going to throw my radios out the window.
Any ideas?

You can get .mp3 players very cheap. You can "rip" CD's with Windows Media Player and then have .mp3 files of everything you own on CD, to transfer into the memory of an .mp3 player. That is the easiest way to do it.

just listen to the music in your head... i do my best thinking when i'm doing pointless and menial tasks around the house and in the garage.. in fact, music can be a bad thing when i'm in the zone and on a roll with some of the more crazy ideas in my head..

I listen to music at the gym from my iPod classic, my iPhone5, or one of my three iPod Mini's. I gave up on radio years ago. Not only is it more commercials than music, you have the lame "morning drive shows" geared towards kindergarten potty humor (aka John Boy and Billy and others), and when they do play music, they play the same 25 songs over and over and over.

ron go get an ipod mini. the last few generations used are less then 50 bucks and weigh less then your money clip. you load itunes on your computer and can either purchase music electronically or download your cd's. you can also go get a friends cd's or the library and load those. It will name the songs as long as its a full album.
the latest thing that you can listen to on your computer or iphone (i know you don't have one) is itunes radio which is kind of like that thing you were talking about but this is free. so they have a sinatra station etc etc.
you can use your pc to listen though.
the ipod will take a little bit to get used to but you will love having 1000 songs at your fingertips. you can make a play list as well

Get Pandora
On what?? I have Pandora in the house on a Smart TV but how can I get it portable? I'm considering all options I can find, I just don't want to have to get a new phone to do it.

I use spotify, I can look up songs put them into groups and then download them to my phone and they play through the app. If you only use the web version its free, if you want it on your phone there is a monthly charge of about 10bucks. A few people I know use Rdio which is the same service, different company....

I use my Ipod Classic every day. I love it, ive had this one for about 5 years now, I have found another great feature on Itunes. Podcasts, internet brodcast type shows. If you have Itunes, check out the podcast section and use the search function and search all of your hobbies, likes and dislikes. A lot of good stuff in those, ive subscribed to about 10 of them so far, hardest part is finding the time to keep up with them.

Ron,
You can purchase mp3s through Amazon, and download the album to your computer to own. If you like Apple iPods, then great use iTunes to purchase music and transfer and manage them on your ipod.

OR, if you do not have an ipod, you can get a Sony mp3 player and just copy the mp3s to the player when connected to your computer like a filesystem. iTunes is very slow and bloated.

This is why I suggested an mp3 player. No itunes needed. Pretty much just plug and play. You can get an mp3 player for like $20 and plug it in to the aux jack on your head unit, or use a cassette adapter.

What I would do is get a landscaper, quit exercising

and drive the car more often.

Mike, thanks for the advice, are you looking to expand your business into TN? :p I've put 35000 miles on the 69 convertible in the last 4 years, I drive it more than my daily drivers.

I just bought an IPOD SHUFFLE, I put 20 CDs on it so far so it should keep me listening for a while.
Thanks everyone.

You'd be the first one I'd call!

How did you get Sirius hooked up in a Chevelle?

Very easy, I just put the antenna on the dash and tune the car radio to 88.1 and it plays though my regular radio.

I stopped listening to Nashville's "music" radio stations a while ago. Even when John Boy and Billy aren't on, they're playing the same 20 or so rock songs over and over. A co-worker and I joke that the Beatles "Come Together" is played a few times daily. The country stations now play pop music disguised as country. My radio is set to the talk radio station 90% of the time. Otherwise I listen to CD's. The new "oldies" station is OK, but they'll throw a modern tune in the rotation every once in a while, which is a turn-off.

I would purchase an ipod or other suitable mp3 player and start downloading. I have friends that have thousands of songs to choose from. I'm only 31 and have yet to delve into downloading digital music.

I use an iPod Classic as IMO radio is dead. Get an Apple product or go the mp3 route and get your music ripped onto a device. There's also Pandora, XM radio mobile, Spotify, Beats Music, and probably many other streaming music services I'm missing that you can listen to via internet browser, smartphone, and even through a compatible stereo (auto and home, etc.).

iTunes has a nearly endless listing of iTunes Radio stations that span the world and are free. You can listen via your PC, tablet, smartphone, etc.

Lots of portable devices that are compatible with MP3 files if you don't go the Apple route.

Depending on your budget (from free to monthly service fee) and what format, there's an option for you.
