I responded to a post about 10K for a rusted hulk. http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=332529

I responded with - "With no paperwork it's a Malibu convertible. He does not mention any docs to prove it's a SS (unless it was built in canada)"

I received a private message from a member here and am not too sure how to take it, I was simply stating what has been preached on here numerous times before. With no docs, No way to prove it's a SS. (69 & later)

Here is the PM I received.

You'd have to be insane to make a comment like that on a car with the obvious petina this one has.
Did you notice the round gauge dash?
After making this comment, I'm thoroughly convinced you are as stupid as your car looks.

And all this coming from a guy who drives a clone with yellow headlights, fake license plate, stinkbug stance and tires that should be on a truck.

I'll bet you think you are getting better gas mileage because your car always feels like it's going downhill.

For those who DO KNOW these cars, you are really making yourself look like an ass.

should I put my initials here?

I am not sure how my car has anything to do with this comment, Never said I had a "clone" - Just like the SS emblems.

Any thoughts?

my thought is this - ignore it. Maybe even delete this here thread because you are correct but just from reading what they sent to you, you are peeing uphill in the wind and guys like this one dont let go. Its just going to give you a headache.

Oh, and yes, you're right and if that party thinks they can prove an SS by "patina" and "gauges" then thats the cat I want to meet....as soon as I pick up a malibu and install an SS dash I can list for sale. ;)

Ah, I checked the thread and its pretty easy to see who that came from. Only real detractor in the thread talking it up as an SS.

Not that hard to pin down but then again, I dress like Magnum PI on the weekends some times.

IMO I wouldn't sweat it...The 'keyboard know it all' obviously doesn't know that the round gauge dash was an option on ANY Malibu from '70-'72. So really he makes HIMSELF look like an ass.
As for the petina he speaks of....any convertible that sat under a tree for 5-10years OUTSIDE will get the same petina SS or not. BTW cloning was going on in the '70s because people just liked the SS 'looks'.
BTW the SS hood rust doesn't match the body rust color so who knows if it belongs to the car.

Before this wannbe says anymore,he should post a pic of his 100 point restored car for us to learn from.

post his screen name....I'd like to see HIS car.....if his mother lets him post pics of it.

he's a douche alright, but don't post his name.

generally not a good idea to post his his PM either but you kept it anonymous so the only way anyone will know is if he outs himself.

there are know it alls everywhere.

Maybe that guy bought it & NOW realizes YOUR RIGHT! he may have paid 10K+ for a rusted Malibu conv.

Judging only by your post, you made a worthy statement and I support that opinion.
His comment is just insane and shows a lot about his character or lack of.
I wouldn't let that kind of a response effect me, if anything you have to just feel a little sorry for the author.

About the car, a 70 is sacred to many and they have been raised up from the bottom of the sea with only stainless alum. and glass left and ended up at barrett jackson but try to justify devoting that attention on any other model year and people look at you a little funny.
Me, not a 70 fan but these types of cars make my rust free examples we find here on the west coast that much sweeter. My conv received only lower patches on the bottom of the front fenders and lower rear quarters. Orig. trunk, floors and quarters. The 66 received only patches on the lower front fenders, nowhere else. :hurray:

you are peeing uphill in the wind, guys like this one don't let go.
I couldn't agree more.
He obviously knows more than you and you'll never prove him wrong...

OK the one thing I DID just notice is that the gauge package DOES NOT have the tach option which would indicate the probability of being an SS car.
A non-SS with the round gauges would have gotten the tach also.

Do I think the PM'er knew that? hell no.

Operative words in your post being "indicates the probability". I sure as heck wouldnt accept a loose woman I had a one night stand with coming to me and telling me "Hi, this is your baby" - probability is there but honey, unless your bring me and the 5 other guys a DNA printout and show me proof then my answer is "What baby? Call Maury Povich and lets get on a plane"

So without docs my reply is "What SS?"

Its perfectly fine to disagree with somebody even if you don't know what you talking about because everybody is entitled to there opinion but that was just slightly out of line.It was sent in a PM most likely because he knew he was an idiot and didn't want 50 people to tell him that so blow it off.:beers:

I'm always amazed about people calling other people names, especially with an audience.
They're not smart enough to know that name calling actually reflects back on them.

But back to the topic;
I would have just deleted the PM and taken it with a grain of salt, thinking to myself "consider the source" <shrug> :boring:

As in any group, with thousands of people that pass through here, there will always be some to simply ignore and move on.

I wouldn't pay any attention to him whatsoever. No since getting worked up about somebody else's ignorance. True SS on not theres no chance in He_ _ i would pay that much for a car in that shape. Kinda Odd also, I see the bidders list and the same guy C***D outbid himself like 11 times.

Wow, I honestly can't believe that someone felt it necessary to send you a PM like that. Somebody has some SERIOUS issues.

While it is my opinion that the car in question IS a real SS, what does it matter at this point? After spending 10's of thousands of dollars restoring the car, you would still have no documentation supporting its status. While the car obviously has all the pieces of a real SS, and that may be proof enough for whoever bought it, good luck trying to pass that off as "documentation" if it ever comes time to sell the car.:noway:

Thanks guys, Just wanted to see if I said something to warrant a personal verbal attack like that. I did not want to out him that's why I took all of the info off other than the comments.
As far as the legos, :D I was looking for a pile of skids at one of the sister factories where I work and came across the returnable plastic trays and thought it lookes pretty cool.
I know there is always a bad apple in the bunch but this site is awesome and I have learned a ton since I have been on here. Just was kind of suprised by the comments.

Yep---I'm kinda wondering what a "Petina" is.

A peeing Tina Doll???
Tina peeing on the hood???
Or does Tina pee on demand

While I somewhat see where this guy is coming from, taking the argument to PM and attacking you and your car are completely uncalled for.

Does a lack of documentation make it a Malibu? No
Is the car likely a "real" SS? Yes
Is it worth more than a Malibu in the same condition? I think so...

My SS car is the same way. I have no "proof" that it's an SS, but all evidence points to it being legit... and that's good enough for me. It is an SS, and will always be an SS, even if I can't prove it with documentation. I'd love to find a buildsheet, but the only thing it would tell me that I don't already know is what radio it came equipped with.

I'm not selling though, so I don't have to prove it to anyone. ;)
