Stack old rocker pivots till you only have enough theads to screw the nut on to the stud (about one nut thickness) and then tighten it down. it will take some power if you are doing it manually, and you may have to remove the nut a couple of times to add washers to get the stud all the way out. You may need extra nuts, I found since I was replacing the original with roller rockers and new nuts with set screws I just used the old stuff. hope that helps. Andy

I just did this and found that fliping the heads over and filling the water jacket with with enough wd40 to cover the stud ends makes a HUGE difference in how easily they come out. Let it soak for a while, then remove the studs as described above.

Using a bit of coppercoat or neverseize on the stud threads will help keep them from stripping if they are tight.

If you stripped the threads, why don't you just go to the hardware store, buy a new thread die, 3/8-16 3/8-24 what ever you want, they are about 8-9 dollars, cut new threads on the stud, use a stack of washers and a nut and pull it it out.

UPDATE:

i took a grinder to the stud and chopped the top part of it off. i then drilled a hole in the stud and went down deeper and used wider bits as i went down. i tried to pull the stud and the little piece that was left ended up falling into the water jacket. i tapped the hole and the replacement stud went right in. a negligable amount of antifreeze got into the oil but i planned on changing the oil anyway. i was thinking that i will flush the cooling system in an attempt to get the metal remnants out. what do you think?
