A friend of mine has a Dell and her son has gotten into some, not so friendly sites and I have been trying to get rid of all of the crap that ended up on it. I have run adaware and spy bot on it and its found a bunch of things which i have gotten rid of. Anyone know of any other ways short of reformatting the hard drive to clean it up more? One thing I can get back is, she has a dial up connection so it used to show the two little computers in the lower right hand corner when the net was hooked up. When you get off the net, you could click on them to close the connection. Well these are gone now and the only way to disconnect is to shut down the computer.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Andy

What OS? In control panel select network connections or network and dialup connections. Depends on the OS. Right click on the existing connection and select properties. There should be a checkbox to show the connection in the taskbar.

Sorry, its windows XP

Ok, then in control panel it's Network Connections. Should show the existing connection and New Connection Wizard. Right click on the existing connection and select properties, you should see the little checkbox near the bottom on the 'General' tab. Place a check in the box and click ok. That should be it.
