I have a steel hood and a fiberglass hood scoop. What would be used to mount the scoop that would have limited cracking due to engine vibration. The scoop has screw downs to secure it firmly to the hood. However I want the scoop blended into the hood so it looks as though it came together and was not just put on. I was told of some poly putty like stuff that does the trick but I cant remember what it was nor can I find the guy that told me.

Thanks in advance.

Duraglass would probably be best, or 3M or Duramix sell 2 part bonding adhesives.
What is the part number for the Duraglass if that is best. This scoop has 6 bolted studs to secure it to the hood as well so it should be firmly attatched. I wanted the scoop blended in where it looked like a one peice hood. The painter said that there are so many variations fo Duraglass that he was not sure which was best. Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks,

I couldn't find the Duraglass on-line anywhere but I believe it is made by USC. Here is some othe stuff that sounds pretty good also http://www.evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx Fit the scoop, apply the glass to the scoop and screw it in place, the extra glass will squeez out. Use your spreader to wipe off the excess, sand smooth and finish with regular filler.

if your scoop is fiberglass you want fiberglass resin/resine (everyone spells it diffrent) . if it is plastic you would have to use some sort of plastic glue. mine is fiberglass. i bought my resine from a auto paint store. can't recall who made it. there all about the same. i would use a name you know. the next step is very critacal. you have to grind down the hood to metal were you are going to put your scoop( grind not sand) to give the resine somthing to stick to. i sanded the first time, and when i pulled up on the scoop it came loose.after i grinded and did steps over again i can pick the hood up by the hood scoop. this is the way to go. the hood has been driven wiyh a 454 under it for about 4,000 miles no cracking. i did get a couple of bulbles before i put it on the car, and i just sanded the bondo down in those spots, and fixed. when i format my pictures of my scoop i will show you mine. hope this helps.........

1972custom you wouldn't believe it but my scoop is very similar to yours its actually a scoop from a 197x camaro. My hood was grinded to the metal already. A lot of the car was done that way to get the mess the previous hack job had done to the car completely off. The body guy did not want to sand it down and paint on top of it. It was horrible. I have a lot of before pictures of the car and will post them when the work is done. BTW the lines of the scoop really does give it a unique look.

Thanks for the tips guys if anyone can get me a product with numbers to buy that would make it a LOT easier b/c the paint guy keeps saying there are so many variations of each product.

Here are some before pictures I have a lotta money tied up in paint and resto parts so I hope it turns out great. The guys in the picture are the guys painting the car. The older guy has been doing these cars since their production.

Look under Chevelle restoration. Pics of some of my other cars are there as well.

dag that would be cheaper than they are charging me. I purchased all the paint materials, custom paint, clear, seal, and all the chemicals and they stripped the car and are painting it for 1500.00 bucks...LOL plus mounting that hood. The stripping was a lotta work they showed me how the previous painter used some type spray on bondo like stuff. You can see in those pictures above what condition the body was in.. it wasnt too bad.

Thanks,

I will relay what you said to him about what to use and hopefully he can figure it out. It should be done for sure by next weekend. I go down to SC tomorrow and will know more.
