Hi ,
I am new here and need help with my trim tag and build sheet...
My Vin is 136370L137944

trim tag has BL 15349 and
in box 8 of build sheet is BL 15349

trim tag has 17 B and
in box 44 of build sheet is 17 B B -

trim tag has ???(torn off)for date and
in box 10 of build sheet is 05 11 -05

What date is missing from tag(why was it torn?)

Also what are the 2 sets of numbers following the date code on the trim tag and are they the same as what is in box 24 ?

Thanks in advance and glad to be here with Chevelle people!

VIN: 136370L137944
1 ~ Chevrolet
36 ~ V8 Malibu
37 ~ 2 door sport coupe
0 ~ year (1970)
L ~ Van Nuys assembly
137944 ~ sequence build number with first Chevelle being #100001

Box 8 matches the tag, yes, to track the vehicle from Fisher Body to GM assembly.

Box 44 matches lower/upper paint/material color; 17 is Shadow Gray, B is black vinyl top, 2nd B on build sheet is stripe color - black was the only color stripe available with the Shadow Gray. The hyphen, or dash ( - ) is for wheel color. The dash indicates no color, hence probably equipped with SS wheels. Does it show a big block option in box 107?

Box 10. Haven't figured out the first number is a 'schedule' number, '05' in your case, but the following two pair are month - day, November 5. The Body Number plate should have something like 11A for the date (November, 1st week) and should be just to the right of the left rivet. It's been torn off? Maybe someone tried to take the plate off to clean it up or got ripped by mistake during some underhood work. (?)

Box 24 numbers should be the same as on the body number plate and are probably used for internal tracking schemas.

I've been doing some research on build sheets from different years/plants, starting with the '70 model since the year is popular and folks are finding the sheets, and I'm finding all sorts of 'anomalies' between plants. I'm always looking for more leads on build sheets from the various plants for cars and Elkys -with different options (engine, trans, a/c or not, etc.) and not just SS models, but Malibu and/or wagons as well and put the data in some form that's easy to figure out what was going on 30+ years ago.

Yes box 107 shows- =ZL3 SS 396 conversion

Does trim tag show top and stripe color?

And upon closer look at trim tag by left rivit
it has date coe 11A-(piece was bent under itself)

Where is the sequence # on the build sheet
or is that the # in box 24?

The car is currently blue so I want to restore it to its original specs.
Where can I find the de coding for all the build sheet #'s- besides the RPO codes.

What is the number in between box 9 and 24 -37941 that is in different type set.Is that like a invoice #?
Also in box 10 above date is a number hand written-2941 ?
thanks for you help?

Does trim tag show top and stripe color?
No, they never put the the stripe color on there, Trim tag only shows lower, upper paint colors and vinyl or convertible top color. The stripes on the SS were painted in the Chevrolet paint shop, not by fisher. The Chevy line painted all the front sheet metal so Fisher had nothing to do with that part of the car and would not need to code that since they did not do it. Whats on the built sheet is Chevrolet assembly parts.

Just a number used by line workers to keep track of what they were doing. Had some meaning the day it was built but who can know today.

It would help to have an image of the built sheet when trying to answer these questions. Leaves a lot to the imagination.
