I have a stock Muncie 4 speed shifter (67 El Camino) with the stock handle. I removed the engine and trans to rebuild the engine. I left the shifter on the transmission and never touched it. I just reinstalled the combo. I put the stock shifter back on. I can go through all the gears, but I cannot get the shifter to go into reverse. The handle is pulling the cable up high enough through the shifter so that is not the issue.

From underneath, I can move the shifter rod an put the car in reverse, so I feel, it not the transmssion. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thanks Dan

sounds lioke an adjustment problem. adjust it till it works. The Muncie shifters are a PITA, that's why most guys have gone to a Hurst or a Hurst with a Muncie Stick.

It's possible to get the shift levers on the tranny upside down, anybody get a pic of a properly installed Muncie shifter?
