I'd like to get some opinions on what carb to buy for my hot rod, there's so many on the market its tough deciding, so I'd like to get your ideas. Its not a Chevelle but it is a Chevy. A 41 Chevy PU, I use it for a few car shows a year and a grocery getter and some Sat. night light to light play. I have a 800 Edelbrock on it now because thats all I had when I put it together. I'm not to concerned about gas mileage but I need it to be drive able. I'd really appreciate some input. Here's the specs, thanks

350 late style roller cam block

GM 350 crank

9:73 hyper pistons

Edelbrock cam P/N 2204
Hydraulic roller tappet
Basic Operating RPM Range 1,500-6,500 {I shift at 6k}
Duration at 050 inch Lift 234 int./238 exh.
Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio 0.539 int./0.548 exh.
Lobe Separation (degrees) 112

Cylinder Head, Performer RPM, Aluminum, 64cc Chamber, 185cc Intake Runner,

Air Gap intake

MSD dizzy, 6a, Blaster coil

350 turbo/shift kit and a 2400 stall {I want to get a larger and better stall in the near future}

3.42 posi 28" tall tires P255/70r/ 15

weight with driver 3330

Sounds like you'll need either the Holley 670 AS, or the Edelbrock AVS 650. Below is thread with opinions:

Do a little more research on your own to decide. I have the Edelbrock on my daily driver and I love it. It went on there about four years ago, and other than seasonal idle and choke adjustments, I haven't touched it. Also, this Edelbrock has a screw-adjusted secondary opening similar to Q-Jets that eliminates the bog that Edelbrocks used to be notorious for.

best carb for this is the Holley 570SA. A 670 might (or might not) be a tiny bit better on the very top end, but the 570 will be better everywhere else, including at the gas station.

As always, most rods are over-carbed, giving up performance and economy everywhere but the last 300 feet of a drag strip. How much of your driving time do you spend there?

I agree with Tom on a smaller carb. I went from a 750 Demon to the 650 Edelbrock on my 454 and everything improved. As for the top end, I don't usually go 130 mph so I don't know if I lost anything there. The smaller carb pulls plenty hard at highway speeds.
