Hey guys,

Okay, I have a problems with the new/used motor that I attempted to run in my chevelle. It runs like crud, shakes like it's out of balance, and when I pulled the intake last night, there's soot going up the intake runners  . The plugs are black as tar, and the motor's been run for about an hour. I'm sure that I could give much more details, and I will, but are there any "off-the-top-of-your-head" ideas. It's a 402 BB with a solid lunati cam and I thought that on the cloyes dual-roller timing chain that I put it on the wrong way (it has 3 keyways), but I have it on the "circle" which is straight up. The balancer and flexplate are new. It's not just the shakin', but all the black soot that makes me wonder what's going on.

Thanx,

Lindsey

one thing you also might want to check is your flexplate.
ive made the mistake of putting a 454 flexplate on my 427 and having it shake like a dog pooping razor blades.
the 396 and 427 flexplates shouldnt have weights on them like the 454. check that

Check for a vacumn leak, had the same thing happen to me, mine was on the crossover on the intake. Engine ran rough and plugs ect will load up with black soot. Good Luck
