Trying to put the cross shaft back in a 10 bolt 8.2 posi rear and the spiders are slightly out of position for lining up with the hole. Any trick to doing this with a posi? I think when I did this with an open rear I spun the pinion while holding one axle. No way to do this that I know of with a posi, cant get enough leverage to move the spiders. Rear is installed and the car is on a lift. Maybe install a tire for leverage and a pipe wrench on the pinion? Or? Need some ideas, this is a PITA.

Thanks Freddie I will try that tomorrow. If I cant find a 2nd person what if I installed both tires, let the one tire touch the ground, and tried turning the other tire a little? Could I get enough leverage to move the spiders? They only have to move maybe 1/16".

Also do you use a case spreader when removing a carrier? I tried removing this one but it was in so tight I was afraid of hurting something taking it out, so I did not remove it.

One tire on the ground will work. You can also put the transmission in gear or park and turn one wheel.

I don't use a spreader on GM rear ends. The differential is suppose to be in there tight, so prying it out isn't a problem. I put pry bars behind the heads of the ring gear bolts and pry against the gasket surface of the housing.

Thanks Freddie, locked up one axle and I was able to bump the other enough to line everything up. All back together.
