I have a 2 bolt block a 4.25 scat forged crank. Forged 6.385 rods and 5cc dome (more like a bump)SRP pistons. One of our company stores has a machine shop and they will do all machine work and asemble my short block for 250 bucks. Discounts are a beutifull thing. What I need to know is what bearings should I run I get seald power(federal mogul) and clevite at cost at the warehouse level. Also what melling pump should I run? I will be swapping everything from the 396 over that I can. I need a new cam though. The one in the 396 is a 235 240 HR .617 lift. I need to stay Hyd. roller have new morel lifters in the 396 and do not want to switch. How big can I go with fully ported and polished 215 heads with 2.25" valves. Is a 252 262 with a .64-.65 lift possible on a hyd roller cam. I do not care if it is a little nasty on the street.

Rest of combo is turbo 400 with an 8" treemaster and 3.90 gears out back. Need new headers 2" or 1.875" and eventually another carb right now it is a 780 prosystem. This setup went 12.5 with the 396 in the 1/4. Was going to be faster after head work but cracked the head after putting them back on and did not get to the track. It was definately faster though. Have a customer who is going to try and weld it for me. If it works I will put them back on till the 496 is done.

Thanks

Jacy

use either bearing but use an ( H ) bearing .... must have chamfer ..
i like the 252/262 hyd roller you listed ,it should run well . I would stepup to 2' headers for sure .. The heads will be your limiting factor !
I use the H bearings as well. I always check the clearence on the rods and mains

I make a BBC HR that is 251 at .050, .660" valve lift, as a single pattern cam---BigRedL72 ran in the 10.70s-10.80s with it in his 496, and it is a daily-driver.
I can also make a 251/259 at .050 with.660"/.660" valve lift, but I do not have any runs reported yet.
These are available with the EverWear Gear.

To add to the above, that cam Harold that made for us is also a 4/7 swap on a 111 sep.

Last trip out ran 10.50`s @ 129+ Mph with a 1.53 60 Ft there might be some more in there.

Shifts are 5600-6200 rpm.

The 3.42 gears out back helps in the cruise dept too :)

I think I know but is a 4/7 swap just the wires switched because of the cam grind and also is this because 7 spark plug is always wet with gas no matter how it is jetted or what plugs are used. Also what does your car weigh to get to a 10.5 with a3.42 gear. That would be sweet to get even close to this. Also I will search but does anyone know off the top of their heads what kind of tolerances the crank and rods and such should be run at with a performance build. These guys have been building engines for years but when I talk to them I want to see if they are going in the direction I want to go.

Thanks

Chevhell68, the 251/259 @50 with .660 on a 110 camshaft Harold is refering to is the one he cut for me. I'm having the heads freshened up right now and as soon as I get some #'s, Harold and TC will be the firsts to know!:hurray:

Jacy, yes, the 4/7 swap is the change in the firing order due to the cam being ground for it.
The scales are not open yet at the new track here...something about them being a MILLION DOLLAR deal and they need to build an enclosure or something to that effect.

But on the old scales, the car with a small block and no roll bar weighed 3350 Lbs maybe a tick more.

So until we know for sure I`d guesstimate....3750 Lbs WITH DRIVER.
This isn`t a Chevelle though, it`s a 78 Camaro.

I have a nice hyd roller cam for sale that Harold also made for us that ran easy 10`s in a little bigger motor.
Super docile too.... 296/302 Adv 242/248 @ .050 .601/.601 lift 112 sep.
