Fixed yes. Welded no. Cast iron does not take kindly to arc-welding. Check with a local (reputable) welding shop and see if they have the proper equipment for welding cast iron. Good luck.

 

Was the crack caused by freezing? If so you'll likely have more than just one crack and in that case it's probably time to start thinking about a rebuild on a fresh block.

No, it's not a problem to weld it as long as you use the right wire. I repair cracked blocks all the time using my MIG welder. The problem is what figbash already said that if it's cracked in one spot it may be cracked in another.

you can easily weld cast iron using a tig welder & NIROD filler rod:yes:i do a lot of cast iron welding & its not hard if you know what your doing !!:hurray:
