...And my fears were confirmed. I used the same TH400 from my old combo that came in the car and it just won't hold the new motor. My 2-3 shift takes probably 2 seconds. Engine rpm goes up slightly when I shift into 3rd and then slooowly settles into third gear. The tranny is manual/auto and I do not know anything about the internals other than the guy I bought the car from said it was "well built".

Also, the Edge converter I got is stalled a little lower than stated and locks up hard @3000 rpm (opposed to 3800). It would be a beautiful nitrous converter but is a pig right now. My 60' times went down from 1.72 with the old motor and B&M converter to 1.82 now. This is NOT a knock on Edge, I'll send it back and have it re-stalled.

Good news is despite all this my old mph was 112 and now it is 115 even with a badly slipping trans, so the power seems to be there at least :)

Any thoughts or suggestions of where to start are welcome!

If its slipping on 2-3 it could just as well be slipping off the line, thus the lost 60ft. I see you are using a Vic JR intake also, which I lost .03 in 60ft both times I tried it. What was the old combo? I picked up .024 in 60ft by swapping from the Comp cam to Harolds cam. Now the fun begins :D

I have always had the Performer RPM, same intake I had on my .030 454. I originally had the RPM on the 505, bought a brand new Vic Jr, gasket matched it myself and tried it on the 505 twice two years ago and both times I lost 60ft and e.t. once in the spring and once during summer. I am using the RPM now with a heat shield & 2" open spacer on it.

In all fairness I wish I had kept the Vic Jr to try it with these racerites, now all I have is a rectangle port dual plane which may find its way on the car this fall. I do love the throttle response of the dual plane and it works good with my relatively low shift point of 5800.

Thanks for the feedback all. Bob, My old combo was L-88 heads, TRW pistons and Comp H286 cam with a Weiand Stealth. Long story short, I had the old motor and the new one both chassis dynoed on the same dyno and the new combo is 100 RWHP and 50 RWftlb stronger...but I ran the same 12.0 yesterday as I did with the old combo, so needless to say I've got major tranny/converter issues to deal with. It hooked, so no wheelspin issues to account for.

Thanks again guys, and feel free to chime in. This is my second season so I still have a lot to learn :beers:

I may be wrong but Id get a solid trans in there before any talk about a re-stall. As Bob mentioned....the trans may be slipping a little on the launch as well. If thats happening....it might be taking some of the load/hit away from the converter, or just masking where the converter stall actually is due to the trans slipping variable.

Once a rock solid trans is in there, youve got a better baseline to work from to get it right. Id still give edge a hollar first anyways cause they might feel differently than I suspect. If thats the case, might as well get the ball rolling on the converter now. Good luck with everything!
