So I rebuilt the original 350 from my Chevelle and put it in my daughter’s 68 Camaro. I’ve been chasing gremlins trying to tune it and set the idle properly. No matter what I did it would intermittently increase rpm while idling? If I put it in gear, it would stall out. A GM HEI distributor was also a potential culprit. I replaced it with a new HEI… no change. Then the plugs were swapped… no change. Disconnected power brake booster… no change.

My next thought was a blown power valve. Took off fuel bowl and the gasket was almost cut in half from over tightening? Then the gasket between the metering block and the carb body had a bad seal. Check out the top rectangle opening. The gasket dipped in, creating a vacuum leak. PV looked ok, but I changed it anyway (that gasket split in half when removed?)

Running great now. Just can’t believe the new carb was the issue (Holley Street Avenger 600cfm)

That new carb was made in China....unlike older ones.
QC has gone downhill since the Private Equity Company took over....IMHO.
Glad the carb and motor are running well, though....and have found a good home!

It is a vacuum secondary. Works great. This is my daughters car so just a mild 350 build with a little street cred.
