Are the fender extensions for 71 and 72 El Camino's interchangeable with those on a Chevelle? As I recall the fenders are different, the hoods are the same, but not sure abut the extensions.
:wacko:Fenders are DIFFERENT, and extensions are DIFFERENT. They do not interchange, no way no how. The only fender extensions that will interchange without any further modifications, are 71-72 WAGON pieces. The Wagons share the entire front end with the El Camino, along with some other pieces. This is one of those "buyer beware" items at swapmeets, sellers will sometimes avoid identifying the part as either a Chevelle or ElCamino part to try to sucker buyers that aren't aware of the differences.
The 70-72 El Caminos and Wagons are basically face-lifted 68-69 El Caminos, because they share the body from the firewall to the end of the rear quarter panel, the front fenders had to differ from the 70-72 Chevelles because the 68-69 cars had a lower body line that is not present on the 70-72 cars, but IS present on the 70-72 cartruck and wagon. The 68-69 connection also meant that the car's width measured at the outer door panels didn't match the 70-72 cars, so the fenders on the 70-72 Elco/Wagon had to have dimensions that matched the dimensions and flow of the 68-69 body. All this contributed to the fact that 70-72 Chevelle and 70-72 El Camino/Wagon fender extension were model-specific.
Dito.GM didnt make differant dies for the chevelle and elcamino.List them as El Camino and Chevelle wagon, they are the same.
