I have a 1971 Chevelle SS, the engine is stamped on the right front pad with " CRB CE" can anyone help me identify this engine as to what it is. I have looked at the list of engine codes and I don't see a "CRB". I am a ROOKIE at this stuff and all I know to do is ask questions.
Thanks

 It's really helpful for us to know a few things about an engine: Is it SBC or BBC? What's the Engine Casting Date? What's the Engine Casting Number? What's the Stamp on the "VIN Pad?" What's the partial VIN? Like Dave said: a picture is worth a thousand words.

Why? Well, as an example, Pontiac was horrible at reusing engine codes... One year a given code could be something totally cool, and the next year the code would show up on a 326...

A Chevy engine with a CRB code is a 1977 307 CID engine. We need the big picture before we can make an educated guess as to what you really have under the hood.

The engine is a BBC, casting date is "L2270" the casting number is "3963512 and the front engine pad is stamped "CRB CE". This car supposedly blew an engine while under warranty was replaced by Chevrolet with a "counter exchange" I assume that is what the "CE" stands for?? If this is the case would the engine have a serial number?

512 blocks were used for the 1969 427, and the 70-71 454's. There should be numbers after the CE, like CE012345 or CE123456. The L2270 is for December 22nd, 1970. With that late of date I would think it would be a CE1xxxxx 454. Is the CRB Hand stamped?
