Gearz Television had a segment on E3 Spark Plugs. Apparently they have the ability to burn hotter and give better power and performance. Just wondering if anyone has tried them in their Chevelle. I have a small block 350, my gut is telling me that there is no substitute for an AC R45TS.

Trust your gut if the others are made off shore. Let me know if you want to see the Chinese made plug pictures or you can see by googling.

IMO; I would stick with the AC plugs, at 5 to 6 bucks a plug I would hope they install themselves!! And bring you a beer after.

It has to be an apples to apples comparison. The engine in that show is fuel injected witih individual coil packs for each spark plug. On the other hand, you probably run a carbed car with a conventional distributor in some form. In other words, you don't have the "ideal" for what their plugs are probably designed for, so unless they can come up with similar numbers on a "vintage" style engine, you're probably wasting your money.

BTW- where are you guys getting AC plugs? I've looked and can't get them anywhere local? We're talking the old equivalent to the Champion 12yc plug, non-tapered seat..I've looked for just plain old garden variety $2 per plug AC's- not Rapidfire or Platinum, and flat out can't find them...?

Try any auto parts store or GM dealer. Shoot I bet you could get them at lowes, costco and tractor supply too.

Put a set in my daily driver (4cyl)... Mpg went from 36 to 33 and after a thousand miles i have a slight misfire.

Old Autolite plugs i took out had 40,000 mile on them, so basically E3's are worse off then a standard autolite plug with 40k....

Stick with the original type plugs (I even stick with the original manufacturer). My 396 does not run right with Champions. Have not tried E3s but they are not recommend for my BMW so! If you try them give us a full report.

YUP,I TRIED them in my Chevelle. They made a noise that sounded like my valves were hitting them.
I took them out & sure enough each one had a shiny spot on the ground strap thingy that look like the valves WERE hitting them. Back to my NGK UR5 v-power plugs, and all is well.
If someone wants a set of E3 plugs with a bout 2 mins runtime? check my trash before Thursday.

Buzz: Using AC R45TS in my 350, runs great. You should be able to find them at Pep Boy, Parts Plus, Advance Auto or NAPA. You can even get them off Ebay or Amazon. Tom
Summit has them, too--- but you probably can find them locally to save shipping.

What I usually do is look up what I need on the 'net by way of part numbers on the part store sites and take it down to CSK, Azone, or whatever so I can get what I need. I can only come up with the AC platinum and Rapid Fires by doing that! I don't want those, just the standard copper core plugs. That being said, and since many of you can easily find them locally, I did a internet search for what is being used for a replacement AC R44, which is what I need, and i get a AC R43S. Long story short, now that I have an actual part number, maybe I can go down to the corner parts store and they can get them in! Shoot, the actual AC DELCO site doesn't even give a part number for the std. plugs for a '70 350! All I get is the Rapidfires and Platinums..

I know it seems like a dopey question, but I had to ask :D Never ran AC's in my 350, but now I have a part number and I plan on doing so since I've heard they seem to run the best in a GM engine.

IMHO, ttrip, I'd nix the E3 plugs and get a decent set of AC's (or other standard plug) and put that extra money toward a recurve kit and a properly selected vacuum can. You'd probably get WAY more benefit out of it. Just IMHO...

Guess ole Elwood is flogging rice nowdays. AC plugs and BBC is like apple pie and ice-cream. If you're running a BB, or any other performance Chevy engine, the least concern will be emmissions. Heck, I don't know if I spelled it right, nor do I care!

Unburnt gas smells G-o-o-o-o-d:D

I personally prefer NGK but I believe it was an autolite add that said "it's always only taken one spark" or something like that and I've never worried about spark plugs again! And never had issues with them either.

Here's some E3 photos for you.... I tried them for about 10 minutes in my car. Pulled a couple plugs just for kicks. 5 out of 8 hit something. I don't know if it was the piston itself or a valve. Trick Flow Twisted Wedge Gen 1 heads. They are clearly deeper than the standard plugs. Buyer beware...

Doesn't that company have a money back guarantee or something? If I shelled out over $50 for spark plugs and they wound up hitting something inside the engine, I'd for sure try to get my money back! Why in the world didn't this company test these plugs in one of the most popular performance engines in the USA if not the world (BBC)?

Makes me wonder how in the heck the PO of my car got away with running tapered seat Autolite 25's in my '70 441 cylinder heads that take washer seat plugs..Now that I know a little better, I'm really surprised nothing made contact in my engine since the tapered seat plugs thread what seems like twice as far into the head!
