Seems like lately it's worse than ever....the same questions getting asked around here over and over. :boring:
...disc brake conversion, control arm bushings, 10 bolt-12 bolt swaps...
Try using the SEARCH function...chances are if it's a simple Tech question it's been asked before. ;)

You should have searched, this question has been asked numerous times before!!!!

and just like google..
sometimes your question. gets you 1000 hits.. to fish through..
some have the time to fish others may not..
other thing..
the search, you find the info. on the question.. but is it correct..

you ask the same boring question. in a post.. if info that is posted is wrong..
someone here will post ,it's faults and the correct answer(hopefully)

both work,,
the search..
gives you mostly the same thing. with alot of unrelated info ,you were not looking for..

the bigger the site gets and the longer it's around..
the worse the search, option will become..
as it'll have more and more threads/post.. that may have nothing to do with your question. showing up. in the hits on your "search"

And at 15000 posts, it seems like you answered every one of them ;)

Although you find the repetetive questions annoying, here is another perspective because I have been guilty of this at some point or another along with many others, even so called "veterans" of the forum community. Some people would rather do a cursory search, or no search at all, and the post a question to engage in discussion purely for the social interaction and cameraderie inherent to the hobby. Sure it could be pure laziness but IMHO I dont think this is always the case. And sometimes new discussions reveal new ideas or better ways of explaining a theory or a task. Or maybe not IYHO.

Not intentionally bashing your comment or trying to waste the valuable space on this forum. Just offering a different view.

Maybe it's not possible but searches would be narrowed down a lot easier if all key words would have to fit. Example: As it is now if you entered the key words "cleaning intake", you would have to sift through all threads that contained either the word "intake" or the word "cleaning" and it would be very many with each. If the thread had to contain "cleaning intake" there would be far fewer threads displayed.

Bill your question has been covered many times, use the search l:)l:)
Even I still use the search just to answer someones question.

I love the search function. But, is there anyway to get the search to include the letters/numbers that it will remove from the searc (sometimes it removes things from your search, stating too short or too common).

I agree to the extent that if everyone searched for answers, there would be

A) No interaction in the technical forums, and no feelings of comraderie between members that could be established.

B) No updated or new information pertaining to the subject.

I also agree that the search function can generate tons of hits, but a lot of them show up because the words you searched for are included in posts not neccesarily pertaining to the question or scenario you are in. In some cases it's easier to just ask and get a quick response other than weeding through a lot of irrelevancy in a search.

X2  :beers:

Then why have this site as all? Just have the SEARCH function to locate an answer to your question.
You can call it "Chevelle Dopes." A site to obtain useful answers to your stupid questions that have already been answered.

This is the prime reason why, when I post a question, I preface it by stating that I DID do a search, and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Who cares? Do you feel obligated to answer or something? I'm always cool with someone new (or someone old) asking a question. It's a forum; it's for questions.

I always try to treat this place like I'd treat my house. If you show up and ask me a question and I know the answer, I'll tell you. I sure wont ask why you didn't google it before you asked me. Just my .02

Can I swap a 10 bolt with a 12 bolt? ;)

easy Bill.

I just used the search to find the ammo that they were talking about in the other day for the Ruger 10/22.
I searched by 10/22 and it hung my computer. I don't think it liked the backslash.

could have been coincidence though

Bill, I searched and this is what I got:

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

The following words are either very common, too long, or too short, and frankly If you are too lazy to look for yourself, I'm certainly not going to do it for you, so they were not included in your search: anyone, ever, use, the, search, function, any, more

I use it almost daily, but many time there are so many results, that really have nothing to do with the search. Seems you have to be really specific with lots of key words. Like now, I need a new HEI distributor, but I wont DARE post any questions on it asking for help. That topic has been beat to death, but really not answering my questions

So what makes you think asking the question again is going to generate anything different? ;)

I just came in here to say that I was searching for how to do my 12 volt big block disc brake swap, and you guys are loading up the server posting here so I can't do my search.

Cut it out. ;)
