I've toyed with the idea of a 383 stroker in my '71 to get more low-end grunt. I'd love to go big-block, but the budget just isn't there. This place is only an hour or two from me in NJ and I could save some $ on shipping if they turn out to be a reputable place.
*Does anyone have any direct knowledge of them or their products?
*Even if not, can someone more knowledgeable than myself take a look at what they offer in their 383/450 package and tell me if it seems to be a good deal?

The motor in the car now was there when I got it. From what I know it's a '72 truck block (.030 over), 4-bolt main, GM angle plug heads (I was told 10:1, and I only run premium fuel), has a TH350 w/stall and 4:10 rear. The car runs very well as-is, so presumably the motor would be a good candidate for rebuild. Would it make more sense to have someone rebuild mine and go with a 383 from it?

Thanks in advance for any help!

This is just my opinion, but you could get one of these from Jegs for just over $5000 and add whatever you want. I'm guessing you would end up a little cheaper. Now all the big block guys will steer you to their choice which would be even better (in their opinions). I like my small block not because I have any wild dreams of out running the big inch guys, it's just easier on my wallet right now.

Doug is the guy who owns the shop.I've known Doug for a number of years and his stuff is top notch. He has run in my current 383 (that I built) great guy to know.He will also build your motor to your specs also if need be.I know quite a few people that are using his motors, and not one complaint that I know of.

Being your from from Joisey :waving:He's worth at least talking to. Good luck

No info on that builder but I just ordered a stroker from Rob at http://www.strokermotor.com

493 hp on the last one he had dyno'ed about 2 weeks ago. Mine should be ready in about 5 weeks. Let you know how it goes I choose him because he has no BBB complaints that I found and when talking to him seemed willing to share all the info and give advice. (Didn't seem to have anything to hide)

Hopefully I made a good choice. Good luck to you.

Thanks, all! I appreciate your feedback. Looks like I have some homework to do. Yes, I have heard good things about Mike Wolfplace and that certainly is an avenue I will explore.
