There is one on Ebay for a GTO, same as Chevelle. It's OEM, used and looks to be in good shape. If you are looking for a NOS or even one form the parts pucks, forget it. They only think that they made these cars with autos. I checked 3 of the major chevelle parts houses, automatic only switches. neutral switch
This is a pic of the one from M and H electrical for a 68-69 Chevelle. Their website lists it for $80.00 Does it look like the one for your 72? http://www.wiringharness.com Probably can order it through any of the Chevelle parts places. Good Luck
70-72s I have had use a plastic switch that clips onto the clutch pedal. I have at least one but am saving it for myself. I have never seen the GTO one on a chevelle, maybe its for a 67 or older?
Dave is correct because your car is a '72. The plastic switch, with a sliding internal "rod" clicks onto a plastic stud (shown here: http://www.72chevelless.com/080401-06.jpg ) that is bolted onto the pedal mounting structure. Your purple wires with a black plastic connector on the end is the neutral safety switch harness and it will connect to the two flat leads on the exterior of this plastic switch. If you have a '72 GM assembly manual, a diagram of the switch is located in that book.
I lucked out and found a NOS switch thru this supplier: www.automobilearchives.com and it might be worth your time to contact them. Good Luck.
