WOW, I have had it dealing with American Racing. They are a joke and the customer service is pathetic. I ordered some custom CL 205's on MAY 1st with a 3-5 week fill time. Well, after 6 weeks I call and check. No centers are available, they are coming from CHINA, so wait another 4 weeks. Nothing again, so they say they should be another 2 weeks. Still nothing. I had to pay when I ordered. So after the 2 weeks still nothing. Call and check and now there is no gray paint for the centers. That comes from....CHINA. I mean who the hell is in charge of production management and purchasing over there. How are they staying in business? They said they get 10 calls per day. They said they would have paint in about 8-12 weeks!!!!!!!!! I said forget it after a 3.5 month wait. Got them to cancel my order (not easy) and called Halibrand. Had wheels in 3 days. The backspace could only be 4 3/8 and I wanted 4.5 but I did not think it would matter so I took them. The worst part is there was a list and some people who are ordering now will not be getting rims until next year as the new centers are already taken to fill back orders and they need ANOTHER center run to keep going. Just letting you know, you have a LOOOOOOOOOONG wait if you want custom CL 205's.
Do not order AR CL205 customs!!!

That sucks dude. Sure is a lot of problems with stuff that's made in China nowadays. I think there will be a "buy American-made" backlash coming here pretty soon with a lot of stuff that is currently made in China.
I've had to take away like 5 of my daughter's favorite toys this summer. She's about ready to kick my ass over it, I think.

That is why this country is having the problems that we have. We depend way too much on these foreign countries.

I know, it is out of control. I have 2 little kids also. Now all their toys are full of lead paint from CHINA. I just can not believe how long they expected me to wait for rims that were paid for. The real kicker is they offered me TTII and said I could paint them!!!!! I said time and labor alone makes that a ridiculous proposition. Then, when I did not go for the TTII they actually got mad at ME!!!!!!!

You might want to give Team 3 Wheels (ET Mags) a looksee...

What a fiasco.
Harleighguy, I didn't know ET mags were still around. After checking the link you provided, I found that they even make finned aluminum differential covers (though only for Ford 8.8 & 9" rears). I sure as Hell hope ET isn't made in China!
I try to buy stuff that is either made in Canada or the U.S. It is difficult to do.

Cam, I've been watching the ET Mag site for over 5 years and it's still there. I was thinking of getting some of the AR CL205's at one point, but not now that I know they are overseas "stuff". I however do NOT know who or where the ET's are actually made. I do like the ET 5 Spokes though. Guess I'm going to have to call and find out. I need something that can go to at least 5" BS for the back of my '65 and I hate to say it, but I'm not a fan of rims larger than 17" and I would prefer 16's for mine. I want my car to look like a car not a "Big wheel" Dubs toy.
I talked to ET. They have a polished lip that it like chrome. The cast mags were 310.00 each plus shipping. I just did not want to pay that much. I got Halibrand mags for 199 each. Also, ET wanted at least 2 weeks to build them. Halibrand had what I wanted in stock. The halibrands are nicer than the AR anyway. I am glad I went to Halibrand.

Just an FYI for you guys, the big three uses plenty of alloy wheels cast in China.
To me American Racing has always been more of a generic cheap quality brand of wheel anyaways. Every little hole in the wall tire shop carrys american racing wheels around here and nothing else unless its another cheap brand. When you see them being sold with other cheap brands, to me that says it all right there IMO.
I cant think of a single shop around here that sells any sort of higher end custom wheel.
