I'm trying to separate the pitman arm from the center link on a 1971 Chevelle and can't get it to come out. I've tried the method suggested in the shop manual - using two hammers, also prying the joint and tapping the stud on the center link. Any other suggestions?
Also, I need to buy a socket to remove the nut on the pitman shaft - can anyone verify the size (1 5/16?)

Thanks

M & M,
If y'all are having trouble removing the Pitman nut and seperating the c-link from it...wait until you try to remove the Pitman arm from the steering box! ;)

A small pickle fork (tierod size) driven between will seperate the center link from the Pitman arm. Can't remember in the nut size...

I just used a pickle fork and they came right apart. For the steering box nut I used a large adjustable wrench and a pitman arm puller. Just tighten it and hit with a hammer, repeat until it pops off.
