Which fuel are they running in this? MS109 has a motor octane of 101.
Dan it's 109 all the way...the car love it plus it's unleaded so it doesn't mess up my wideband.....:wink2:

AAAHH HAA...I knew there must be a wheelie bar on there by now. What a beautiful car. Looks like maybe he went wider with the rear tire & wheel combo too (?) and I see that BMR Fabrication rear anti-roll bar is still hangin' tough. Cool stuff.
Thanks Billy......same wheels.....same size tire ...they call it a 29.5x10.5 but actual is 30x10.2.......only difference is now it's one of M/T's new Pro bracket radials instead of a bias.........fantastic tire......;) That's a bar made by Calvert........it wasn't going to the track without one this time...we still haven't turned the power up all the way yet while we work on getting the chassis right first......

Hey Davey ,Im curious as to what you have done to lighten the car ? vs the old 509 combo.

You have have the weight listed as 3520 to depending on fuel to 3590.

Your old 509 combo was listed about the same weight and you had fiberglass bumpers and 1 seat and shifter?

Now you have steel bumpers ,full interior, wheelie bar, vacuum pump, and are about the same weight.

Do you have mufflers, alternator, fuel cell or factory tank ?

I would like to get my pig under 3500 with it not looking stripped out thats why Im asking.
Thanks.
Hi Jesse, first that 3590 should be 3570, I'll correct that. To be honest I was quite shocked when we put it on the NHRA scale (the same one it was weighed on before). I thought for sure after adding all that stuff back in it would be at least 3600, I know the back seat alone is 50 lbs. First the factory bumper is very light to begin with, it's only 7 lbs heavier than the glass one but it's pretty. I do run collector extensions but not a full muffler when I'm racing. I do have a full size alt but I did save a few lbs by redesigning the mounting bracket and I have a cell in the trunk with the filter and Magnafuel pump which have always been there. It started with me as kind of a weekend show car so it had a custom trunk interior mostly made up of wood and carpet. When we put the new factory interior in it we took all that trunk stuff out and restored it to factory specs. I can't tell you how much but I'm sure we lost some weight there, not a lot but maybe 15 or so lbs. I also decided if this thing was going to be faster we better be able to stop it so while I already had Wilwood brakes on the front we decided to replace the old drum brakes on the rear with the same thing. At least on my car that was about 35 lbs lighter than the old drum brakes. Because I have such a long wheelbase I also have a long driveshaft so I was worried about critical speed. So I replaced my 3 1/2" chrome moly with a Inland Empire 4" aluminum which I think was about a 12 to 15 lbs saving, I can't remember exactly.

All of these things we did that actually saved weight didn't even occur to me until right at the end of the project or I would have kept better records of each item. A couple of the big ones were done just for safety and the weight savings was a bonus. The car is complete with inner fenderwells, factory front core support, latching hood all that stuff. The only cutting was the 6 holes in the floor for the cage.

Hope I answered all your questions, if you want to know anything else please ask, the car has no secret stuff....Davey

Haven't been here in a while. Good to see some of the same names here plugging away. Kinda miss it but just can't handle the dust and fumes anymore.

PS - hang in Davey, have my 5 year follow up this Thursday. One day, one week, one month, one year at a time.
thanks you Joe, that's what I'm going to do for as long a I can get away with it......:)

Great pics! Your car is amazing Davey! Glad to see you enjoying it again, keep fighting and get yourself behind the wheel again.
thanks Kai, I'm working on that...

Thanks Davey, that's a lot of weight for the rear brake kit .I will have to look into that.
Are you using the old converter from the 509 ?
How much vacuum are you pulling?
How much preload on the lifters?
Same oil as the 509? 20 weight?
Thanks Davey
Hey Jesse...... well remember these weights are as close as I could get them. Some of these things are hard to put on the scale I have so I did the best I could but they are pretty close. The backing plate, cylinder, shoes, drums and those thick heavy E brake cables weight a lot. They are replace by a bracket, rotor hat and a caliper. One thing of note the rotor hats will push the wheels out about an 1/8" more so watch your tire clearance, I had to "adjust" my left fender a bit with a lip roller.

Yes it's the same converter that's been in the car for about 6 years, it's a 9" Coan billet. Every time I change the motor I send it back to Craig at Coan along with a dyno sheet. It was originally a 4500. For the next motor it was re-stalled to 5000. For this one after Craig reviewed there curves ans peaks he said leave it along so we did, he just did a freshening. Craig said with the extra power it will automatically flash a little higher, probably 5500. According to some charts they say it's operating at about a 6-7% efficiency level which I think is considered fairly good.

I am using 10 " of vacuum

I had my block machined for the new Morel 903 hyd lifters. This allowed Chris to design a cam with more aggressive lobes. Chris my correct me but I don't think these lifters require any pre load.

My old motor was set up on the tight side so I used Gibbs 5/20 syn.....Mark set this one up a little looser so I'm using Mobil 1 10/30 syn

Hope this helps.......Davey

Davey I have mine at set 3/4 turn after trying a few different settings.
Ive found the best results with redline 5/30 that's near a 40 weight oil.
yes Jesse I stand corrected.....I must have been thinking of something like the pre-load in my brain.... I use to run the Gibbs stuff but it just got too expensive. Mark Jones built the motor and he suggested the 10/30 so that's what I went with. Redline is good stuff, I use their type F racing syn in my trans....;)
