can a drop down tailgate be converted to a dual-i know the bumper has to be changed, beyond that is it bolt in or did the fact. add diff bracing, etc-are the holes there (68-72)

The rear body section of a wagon with a 2 way, ( A Body) Is 100% different than a wagon (A body) without a two/way. It could be done, BUT You would need the rear section of a ( two/way gate) wagon and graft it onto the non two/way wagon body.
Also, Not sure if the rear frame section from a two/way gate, Where the bumper mounts is different.

After trying to take the upper hinge from the left side of a parts wagon, I would never try to convert one from single to 2-way. Just too much important inner supporting metal in that left corner of the car to support the dual hinging mechanism. Same for an converting an Elco.

As I was wisely counseled by members here, buy a 2-way car, or enjoy a nice car with a drop down. Not worth trying to upgrade.

nope, like everyone is saying, there are very major differences. you would need a good donor car and basicly have to cut the entire back half off to convert. it would not be just a few pieces. I think the easiest way would be to cut the trunk floor in halfand up the sides after removing the quarters, then cut it at the pillers and welding the whole thing in. keeping it aligned would be a major concern too. but really, otherwize you would be undoing each spotwelded body piece and disecting the sheet metal and transfering it all over. suer big job. but doable.

the elky thing, now that would be even tougher. the wagon tailgate is alot taller, and more then just cut and paste, everything your pasting to is different then the donor, so lineing things up would be real brutal, but again, give a car nut enough motivation and we can do anything.

Also on the El Camino, there would be no support on the drivers side for when the gate is side hinged (the roof structure of the wagon does this). The left bed side would flex inwards I would imagine.
