I just picked up a console and bucket seats from a 72 Monte Carlo. They are kinda hard to find with out paying a bunch for them. I want to put the console in a 72 El Camino. Is it the correct console for this car? I know the wood grain finish is not right but what about the rest of it. I got the complete set up(horseshoe shifter, shift cable and shift bracet to the trans). Will all this be the same for a 72 El Camino? Both are for a turbo 350 trans.
My other question is about the buckets. The drivers side is a power seat. Can this be made into a regular bucket by just changing the seat tracks? Any value to the power seat set up?
Thanks for any help. I'll have to start reading about how to mount the console and make the shifter work . RichF

Rich,
Yep... New seat covers and new top plate on the console, and nobody will ever know they didn't come in the Elky. I'm pretty sure the shifter is identical as well.
I don't know about the value of the power buckets in terms of dollars, but I do know that you should have no trouble finding a buyer, if ebay is any indication. If it works, I'd consider keeping it... It's a nifty option to have.
By the way, if you choose not to install the power option in your car, you will need also to replace the outside plastic seat skirt with one that does not have the provision for a switch.

Rich,

I think both the seat tracks (manual) and the outer-lower plastic Merlin mentioned are available as reproductions... No idea on the quality, but I know its hard to find decent originals without buying full sets/seats...

I too would consider keeping the power seat. It would be a cool option to have, provided it still works...

Thanks for the reply's. I really don't know if the seat works or not. I had all ready installed buckets in my son's El Camino so I was considering putting the buckets in a 70 Nova I have.
Any way the seat has the power switch installed in the lower plastic cover which is different than a non power seat. Some one has E-mailed me about the seat all ready.
I looked into the OPG catalog and they carry the correct cover for the console. The Monte Carlo cover was a burl wood looking piece similar to the fake wood dash cover they used.
Man I love these Chevelles though. The used parts you can swap from other Chevy's makes it a lot easier and cheaper to make a nice looking Chevelle. RichF
