Folks, I need your input on something. I am a part of the team behind Somernites Cruise; a monthly classic car event in Somerset, KY from April thru Oct. We will be entering our 14th year in 2014. If you aren't familiar with this event, you can check out our website (see Cruise Pics page specifically) for more info at..
http://www.somernitescruise.com/

and on Facebook at:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Somernites-Cruise/203471236350839?sk=wall

We regularly average 1000+ show cars and trucks at our monthly cruise-in with some months being much bigger. One of the highlights of our event is 'cruising the strip' on a six-lane boulevard that runs thru the heart of our little town. Another highlight is that each month we set aside a Showcase Area for a specific make or model. We have over 200 Mopars at 'Mopar Mania', nearly 700 Mustangs at 'Mustang Alley' and so on.

***We are looking at possibly doing a Showcase during one of the shows for Chevelle's celebrating the 50th Anniversary coming up this year. There is no entry fee and no judging. This is a friendly gathering with a family atmosphere in a historic old downtown setting. I need to know if any of you would have any interest in attending something like this?

Just to be clear, this isn't intended as a replacement for Chevelle-a-bration. We do have a couple of 1/8th mile dragstrips with-in forty minutes of Somerset and we might be able to work out some kind of a 'Fun Run' at one of those, but no promises.

I still have to pitch this idea to our group but, there is some grassroots interest in featuring Chevelles already. So, I need your thoughts ASAP!

There are several members here that have attended that I have heard good things from. I have toyed with the idea for years of making the trip down but haven't yet. This might be just event to make me do it.

Guys, just wanted give you an update on this event. Everything is still a go and the Chevelle Showdown is officially on the Somernites Cruise schedule for June 28th. Plus, we'll be making a visit to a local dragstrip in conjunction with this show!
For those unfamiliar with Somernites Cruise, I can tell you that on the 4th weekend, April-Oct in Somerset, KY we host a huge classic car event that has activities on both Friday and
Saturday. Friday night offers a large Block Party with live music, games, door prizes and more.

Saturday is the official show day and begins with a trip to a local point of interest. For June we will be making a trip to a local drag strip. The track is offering unlimited passes for $10. Helmets are highly recommended and all cars should be street legal.
Later, at 1pm the Show & Shine opens and Chevelles, Malibus and El Caminos will have their own VIP Entrance Gate. Admission is completely free for participants and spectators. This event is not judged so, sorry no trophies.
At 7pm, hundreds of rides head out to the local six-lane 'strip' to cruise and maybe even turn their tires over (within reason).
More details to come or you can click the link in my sig line to visit the Somernites website.

Just wondering if you know my friend from Kentucky. He goes to your cruise's and always sends me pics from them. He's got a Black 55 Chevy with Earl's 55 on the side.

It's vaguely familiar. We average over 1100 cars each month from 10-12 states so it's tough to keep track of them all. Has he had his car at the show in October for our Tri-Five Chevy Showcase? If so, I've definitely seen the car.

Yes, he was there I checked the photo's from Oct. 2013 and there was a picture of his car on the first page. The car is black with a red stripe down the side with "Earl's 55'' incorporated in the stripe on the rear quarter.

Can you provide some more details on the drag strip outing scheduled? Will it be 1/8 or 1/4 mile runs? Is the track usually open to the public on this day/time or is it just opening for this specific event? Just wondering how many runs I might be able to get in if I make the trip down.

Might be good to post in this section so more people here will see it... http://www.chevelles.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=29

It's London Dragway on the west side of London, KY. Approx 40 minutes from Somerset.
They do 1/8 full on race and 1/4 for street cars. They are not normally open in the morning when this fun run is set to visit. However they do a regular test & tune on Friday night so, remember that when taking track prep into consideration.
We'll get there at about 9:45am and gates for the Show & Shine in downtown Somerset open at 1:00pm so, you can kinda work out your own schedule. Depending on the turn out, I would think maybe 6 or more runs are possible?
This fun run is open to anyone coming to Somernites on this Saturday so, there will probably be other makes and models there.
Track is linked below...

Getting closer for this show. If you are planning attend, visit our website (linked below) and click the "Lodging" button to be taken to a list of sponsor hotels in town. Most are located on the main strip where all the after show cruising occurs. Plus, Somerset isn't that big a place anyway so, you should have no problem navigating around.
Please let as many Chevelle owners as possible know about this show!

Just four weeks away now guys. Please spread the word around about June 28th and Chevelle Showdown at Somernites Cruise. If we have a strong turnout we can put this event on the schedule each year. By "strong" I mean 150+ cars. We will also be able to expand on the events for Chevelle owners.
I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have and can get you hotel info, directions, etc. Just let me know!
