I have a 68 Non Tilt/ Non Keyed column that I'm trying to get the steering shaft out. I have everything disconnected from the shaft and I am pulling the shaft out of the Column/Housing from the steering wheel direction. I can get the shaft out about 3/4 of its length but at that point it stops on something solid like maybe the 1" spline is hitting on something inside the column housing. everything spins free up until that point and I just did not want to force anything before inquiring with someone with some experience in shaft removal.

Thanks, Tony

Ok, I got it apart. There is a small cir clip at the top of the shaft that allows the bearing and Cast housing to easily slid off. Then the shaft can simply slide out from the bottom.

No the shaft is not tapered it is "Stepped" much like the Intermediate shaft but it does have a section in the inner column tube that restricts the 1" splines side from coming completely out through the top. perhaps by design.

Thanks, Tony
