Around the gas filler on my elky I have a few specks off primer. My local PPG rep. suggested hit the spot with some base & blend in the clear at the sail panel area.
Was told to shoot clear upto a point on sail panel, pull back masking & add some fadeout thinner to gun (w/o cleaning the clear out of gun), lower air pressure & blend in this area. Don't buff this area, just hand polish.
Does this sound right or should I pony up & clear the whole rear?

IME, the clear will peel. Unless the clear is fresh (days), I wouldn't recommend blending.
I, myself refuse to blend clear and only panel paint. The only time I will blend is if I'm not charging for a small spot repair. I feel that I can't warranty any blending.
Also, to me if the rep is suggesting that you hand polish the blend only, then there is a question of adhesion.
