Can someone tell me what the small tab on the top bolt hole is for on some BBC Alternator brackets please?
Thanks again

Check your application though, as not all Big Blocks with the alternator using that bracket had the throttle return spring attached to this bracket in the front. My '67 L78 had the return spring attach to the coil bracket behind the carb.

Yes, it was the "green spring" and I've seen some engines with that setup. But, I think it's dumb with the factory pcv line that crosses in front of the engine which conflicts with the spring. Maybe only the high performance 396's had the spring connected to the coil bracket? Another interesting trivia item!!!

How did you remove your bracket?...just heat it up? I need to remove mine before taking everything to the engine builder. I'll just repaint the upper bracket.

1966 used the extra tab, 1967 didn't. I think both versions are available.

Nice job! I actually found a better repro one (Auth GM Repro) and it's slightly different , nice "heavy" steel and no extra tab. Now I have one left over, but what else is new? I didn't think I'd be able to remove the entire tab like you did.
