I do not visit forum much, but do own a rather nice 67 Chevelle driver. I happened upon something today and need some guys opinions. This is a true story.

I found a 47,000 mile Malibu 4 door with a 283 p/s no air car that has not been driven since 1990. Belonged to a lady that has passed away. Her sister has decided to sell the car. It looks to be rust free. It is actually stored in a enclosed carport, not a barn. Car looks real good, has a small dent in drivers fender and some of the trim is dinged up. Interior looks pretty decent. I believe it to be a 1964. It has automatic transmission. If it were a 2 door, I would be drooling, but what is a 4 door car like this worth? Opinions please?

Thanks

with out pix, Its hard to give a good value. But from your description. If it runs and drives good, I'd say $2500 to $3500.

IMO the 4 door cars are not a big $$ car. I saw a 68 sit for sale up here with about 60k on it for months maybe even a year. I believe it finally sold for under $1500. That was last year before gas prices and and soft market slowed things down even for the more sought after 2 doors. That car I mentioned though was an unpopular color besides being a 6 cyl., 4 door. I usually see them priced in the $3-5k range.

Four door cars are gaining somewhat in popularity and price would vary greatly depending on the color combo, options, docs, and overall condition (sitting since 1990...possible mice damage :( ).

Car has been stored in a secure garage , did not see any mice trails. Paint is pretty good on car. Just needs washed waxed and general cleaning. Engine compartment pretty nice as well. All original except for battery, alternator. I think I can buy the car for $4000.00 Not really my choice of vehicles though, Still trying to decide what to do.

Thanks so much for the info so far.

I've owned a few 4 door Chevelles in the last fifteen years; 65, 2x67, 68, 70. Every single one was hard to sell, few calls/time/reduced $$. The 4 door market is narrow.....so don't pay too much....It would have to be a very special car for ME to pay more than $1.5-2K. My $0.02

It would be a good car for the son or daughter to drive to school , but I don't think it is very smart to think a 4 door has any collector value. It is worth what a decent used car is worth

I get lots of  when driving my 4 door.
Never got any when driving a "decent used car". ;)

And a 4 door was popular enough this year to win a Top three Stock award at Chevellabration.

I wouldn't pay much for it, you can't hardly GIVE them away most of the time. Wagons used to be that way too, but got valuable a few years ago when Hot Rod decided they were cool.

Also understand that if it truly has sat since 1990 and is all original it is going to need every piece of rubber on it replaced, and carb rebuilt, and who knows what else. Sitting does not do a car good, even if it is garaged.

I was told it was cranked often, up until 2 -3 yrs ago. Rubber on car was not in bad shape. I have bought a lot of old cars that have been stored and agree, most go down hill pretty quick. This one has faired pretty well. Still not sure I want to "invest" $4000.00 for a 4 door Malibu. I have a 64 4 door Belair that is a cool family cruiser. That Malibu just dont look right with the extra doors if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the comments.

I bought a nice 4-door 71 shortly after I got my current chevelle. I bought it for $1000. All the chrome was in great condition, I took it all! Put the pitted/faded chrome on the 4 door and tried to sell it. At $500 I got a call but the person never showed. After almost a year, I tried to give it away for free; a few months later it went to goodwill:sad:

I only wished I would have kept the interior from it. It was PERFECT condition and I would have just given it to someone in need of it:(

Take this 4 door and price it at whatever the amount of money that has been spent on it and see if it ever sells for that price. It may win awards, but guys will buy 2 doors.
See all the above posts, it is hard to get any money out of a 4 door.

I have decided to pass. :beers:
GREAT CHOICE!!!

I can respect a decent 4-door, But, WAY TOO HARD TO SELL.
You have to practically give them away or hold a gun to somebody's head to get them to buy it from you.

good choice 4k seems pretty high. I would expect it to at least be drivable for that money.
