I know, I know, the Eaton is far better. Next time. But, budget forces me to live with the Auburn for now.

It hooks up fine, but breaks loose and chatters only when I do a slow speed turn to the right ??? Let turns are OK???

Any ideas? Big Gear Head? I am running Mobil one and two bottles of GM. I had the Mobil on the shelf, so I used it. I am ready to try the Amsoil, but I am afraid something else may be wrong. Anyone seen this? Thanks.

I'm afraid that the Amsoil will not help with this problem. This is just a comon problem with the Auburn. If you already have 2 bottles of the GM additive in it then there isn't much more that you can do. The only idea that I have is to drain the oil and put in some petrolium 80W90 oil with 2 bottles of Ford #M-19546 additive and see if it is any better. I don't know if it will help or not, but it's the only thing that I know to try.

I had the same problem with my 8.5 Auburn, called their tech line and did what they suggested. Which was use GM gear oil ($15 for two quarts!) and GM or Ford additive.
GM was out of posi additive so I got ford.
Fixed the problem.

Well, thanks again Freddie. I will try that if the GM lube doesn't work. I have learned a lot this go around - my first one. Chalk it all up to experience.

Jay, I have 2 quarts of that lube. Expensive stuff and it is rated GL-4, not GL-5 like Auburn recommends!

I hope it works. If it does not, I'll just try the Ford additvie like Freddie recommended.

BTW, the GM Axle lube part # is 1052271. Is this the exact same stuff they sold you? Hope so.

Everybody slams Auburn Posi units. I used one in a Mustang for like 60,000 miles and hundreds of drag passes with no trouble whatsoever. I put one in my Chevelle a couple of month ago. No problems. Hooks great at the track, quiet as a mouse on the street. Why does everyone insist on using synthetic lubricants? Fill up the diff with 80W90 oil, I use Valvoline, and two bottles of GM additive. It will be fine. You don't need the expensive GM gear oil, just the additive.

Well I have 2½ years on my Auburn Pro Posi (Eaton didn't have an 8.2 available then). It works great. I used petroleum gear oil with one bottle of GM posi additive when I installed it.

It started making noise around slow tight turns recently. So I drained the oil and cleaned out the bottom of the housing really well, tilted the rear side-to-side to get as much out of the axle tubes as possible, and refilled with petroleum gear oil and one bottle of GM posi additive. The noise is gone.

The dif. is holding up very well to daily driving and beating on it pretty hard on a regular basis. It probably has 45,000 road miles on it.

The only reason I'd go with an Eaton rather than an Auburn next time is because the Eaton can be rebuilt when it wears out.

Auburn has a return program to counter this argument, but only if your dif is less than a certain age. Check their website for details.
