Whats nice about a drop spindle is your shock travel stays in the same spot. Which is nice on a street car. For a dual purpose or drag only car you would prefer not to use a drop spindle or lowering spring, but rather a taller lower pressure spring vs the shorter stiffer spring you would get with the lowering spring. For drag racing you want as much upward travel as you can get along with the most stored energy.
I have 2 inch dropped spindles on my 80 monte carlo, but i also have the talllest lightest spring i could find. The combo of the two has the car slammed, but that was what i was after. I have no ill effects
caused by the droppped spindles.
