Hey guys,

I am trying to keep my Chevelle very stock and original...but I need an anti-freeze reservoir!

Any ideas on one that keeps it close to original with minimal drilling?

thanks,
Ron

The Buick overflow container is about $150, while the F-body overflows, if either of the ones that I found will work, are under $50.
Dr Pepper, I have been looking as well. Here is what I found and neither looks like Tom's. Here is a link for a small 82-87 F-body overflow - http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/p...rts.com/products/Camaro{47}Firebird-82%2d87-Coolant-Reservoir-Tank,-NEW-GM.html. There appears to have been a larger one, but no one makes it. Here is a link for the 88-92 F-body overflow - http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/p...m/products/Camaro{47}Firebird-88%2d92-Coolant-Reservoir-Tank,-Reproduction.html. While the second one looks close, it is not the correct one. Perhaps, Tom's is the 82-87 larger one that doesn't appear to be available anywhere now.
Tom, can you set us straight on this? Which one is yours and from what years? Also, could you include some more close-up pics of yours, showing how it attaches to in the Chevelle wheel well, and a pic of farther back showing the over-all eng bay with it? With all of the dark surrounding yours in the picture, it is very hard to see. Thanks!

I think those are prices for brand new components. I think the whole idea ( at least mine anyway ) is to use used components and try to hide them as pre 73 didn't have an overflow anyway. I know Summit sells some overflow bottles. To each his own. I would try to get away on the cheap here and put more money into some other components!!!!

When I was up north (WA) and back east (VA), I could find good plastic that had been sitting in a salvage yard for months, if not years, and it would still be very usable. Plastic in yards in southern AZ doesn't last long at all because of the heat. At least that is what the yards (Desert Valley and Hidden Valley) near me have told me when I have been looking; that's why I'm looking for new plastic.

On my 69, to get through tech for drag racing, I took a 16oz aluminum Bud Light bottle, put a couple of dabs of silicon on it and stuck it along the side of the radiator. The hose goes down the side of the rad and into the bottle. Best part was drinking the Bud light and checking each bottle until I found the right one. I believe it was number 4.

today 85 degree day here outside of chicago, and it ran at about 150 degrees with a 160 tstat...took a while to get up to there though...just cannot test it on a 100 degree day like was...but did not notice any real difference in power...any thoughts on best operating temp with 396?

also, after testing it out for power with little bit of fun...NOW REVERSE does not seem to engage...SEE TRANS SECTION...weird...

I think I have a 180 degree thermostat in mine and I have a 396. Mine runs usually without fail at about 190 degrees. Have really noticed any difference in temp with difference in outdoor temperature. Then again I cant recall running it when outdoor temp was above 95. I think 160 degrees is a little low. You could do a search but in the back of my mind I always thought the ideal running temp was about 185-205.
Please verify that statement!!!!
