Not all that easy to do. Have to locate all power carrying wires to and from the battery and route through the new gauge. This would have major current carriers running through the firewall and back. Much easier and about as good to get a voltage gauge. Tell you all you need to know. tom

Trash the amp gauge. Install a voltmeter and wire the + side directly to the battery. That way you will be reading the actual battery voltage. If you were to wire it to an ignition wire the gauge would drop voltage when you turn on lights, heater, etc. What do you think guys???

Mike and elc66; The main power cable, the battery cable handles the current to the starter motor which is a couple hundred amps. This would not go to the amp gauge since it has too much current. The power circuit wires are the wire/s from the starter term, alternator batt term, and any other wire to junction blocks, etc. Everything has to go through the amp gauge. This may be simple on older cars (way back) but the later cars (70s) do get a little complicated. I have done this on a couple cars, but I'm not to comfortable with running the main power wires through the firewall and back, and changing the setup when a voltage gauge will do the same basic thing. Just my opinion. tom
