For everyone that asked,,,,
Pump gas 10.5 mild hyd roller by Chris Straub engine by me :D
Pay no attention to the BSFC numbers, my channel 2 flow meter is acting stupid they were in the mid 4's on two earlier pulls

Here is the link to the heads from a while back

Carl you better hope I don't make it:D I have been practicing, just a little though.:p

I go fishing for a couple of days and there is all kinds of drama about the smaller port heads, but not so much when the big heads are compared. Plus it is a customer based engine with his restrictions. Some people seem to lose that fact....

Doug F-

Post 34- Springs are the standard AFR hyd roller ones complete with steel retainers.170 seat 475 rate so these lobes appear very stable they were happy at 6500 & I might bump that up just to see what happens,,,,

Post 38- Yes, Morel & they did not seem that noisy but it is hard to tell in the dyno room
They set at 3/4 or 1 turn of preload, have to recheck
This is 60-80 thou just for info

Man...I am SOOOO going to take you out for a beverage or two next week. Excessive head pressure has you spinning! Focus Man..Focus!!

See ya,

Jim you might as well add Tom to the list!!!
hey....i think I want in on that JIM as i was at that dinner at PRI Orlando when we all discussed this engine.
but im a cheap date...diet coke on the rocks...LOL
guess that hydraulic is holding on pretty good!

Mike, Chris and Tony nice build and very impressive numbers and its hard to argue with dyno numbers compared to some bolting on heads at the dragway!!! Where someone could really make a good set of heads look bad HMMMMMMMMMM

Again nice job and keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The "only" reason you make more power is to go faster at the "dragway", street or circle track (I guess water for boats lol)

Mike, based on your "opinion" on them, how well do you think they would work on a 502 big block? It is a true STREET engine in a pick up truck (4200 pounds) and is not a race truck, wants to be able to raost the tires at will.

Based on the torque you have, And I believe your dyno based on ET's shown by some of your stuff, I think they would be good on the 502 in the idle to 5000rpm range

Do you think the 502 small GM dome would have an issue clearing? JE700 pistons

Once again, aside from where things got a little astray. This is the type of info sharing that get's it done. If you really took the time to look back over past few years, we have gotten to the point where the data base that is shared is just surreal. It's literally to the point where once someone picks the performance level they want to hit, the data is here to deliver it.

Nice!

Mike, did you "dial-in" the oil level (ala Mark Jones style)??

Sort of :D
It has 6qts total in it, 7 qt system so a quart "low" but different pan per request
It is a Milodon pan for a 55-57 because it is slightly shallower with a stud mounted tray

Great job as usual Mike.

The blown 489 I did had a Straub HR and we went 200 seat/520 open with the springs and at 6700 there was no sign of slowing down. I like that 475 rate.

Hey, I was one of the ones who asked for this comparision and I want to thank you Wolfplace and others who made this possible. The numbers are very impressive and my combo is close to the test mule. Thanks again and I will be wanting to speak to Tony when I'm ready to step up to a better set of heads because I like what I'm seeing here.

Nice to see that HR cam hanging in there so nice up over 6000 - didnt even nose dive.

Nice power for a "mild" combo. Will be a shear pleasure to drive (and maintain).

Good work fellas.

This test shows what mine should be capable of, well approximately anyway. The only difference between the 2 is this cam is larger and I have Scat crank and rods.. Other than that everything is identical even down to the distributor.
This gives me hope:hurray:

Morel lifters Mike? I have to ask, how noisy are they? What did you set the re-load at?

Thanks

Thanks Alan! I appreciate that! Anybody that thinks I would align myself with 71 chevy is insane. Nice job Mike:thumbsup: excellent as allways!
Thank you Mark, it seems there are a few folks that do not realize we are friends & share info on a regular basis so if they are attempting to stir the pot between you & I,,,,
A new hobby should be in their future cause this one ain't gonna fly :beers:

There needs to be alot less bashing. That's childish in my opinion. If you bash then you should put up your tests or your motors. Both Mark and Mike build hellacious motors IMO. This kind of crap aggrivates me to no end. Marks heads are modified.. from what i know and i could be wrong but these are out of the box heads. I would recommend Mike and Mark to anyone. Just my .02
Mike and Mark.. don't pay them any attention.. keep doing what you're doing:thumbsup:

thanks Alan, after some of the other threads that have gone stupid lately I just get tired of school yard games. Guess it wasn't a good way to start my day, if he's making a joke then I apologize. Dave

Niee job Wolfy. We damn near have a square engine. Please note on bill to customers we don't supply tires.

Oh and the camshaft was designed to peak at 6000. Customer wanted 600+ HP but needed to have good street manners.

Looks like fun Mike!! Now see if you can just put it in the box and ship it without taking it apart and dyno testing 50 different combos! Just kidding.......that would be a blast with a tight converter and 3.08 gears on the street! Talk about throttle response and pulling HARD!

BIGRED-L72....I did the Hyd roller with both hyd lifters and solid lifters last year on a 555" motor with Dart 335's. The cam was a Crane 254/258 on a 112 LSA. Had .720/.680 lift with 1.8/1.7 rockers. The intake was a Vic Jr and used a Holley HP1000.

It made 771HP@6300-710LBft@4600 RPM with the solid lifters. Might have even made a little more TQ lower than that, but I started the pulls at 4600 rpm. With the hyd lifters it made 760HP@6300 and 707lbft@4700 RPM.

At 6500 the solid lifters were still making 770HP and the Hyd lifters were making 752HP. The Hyd roller was pretty happy to the 6700-6800 range but fell off after that. At 6800 it was down to 714HP whereas the Solid lifters just kept pulling past 7000 easily.

That 254* HR is what is in the car now and it drives great on the street with a stick trans.

Of course with a 268* solid roller, Super Victor and a Dominator the same motor combo made 850HP!

Sorry to sidetrack...back to regularly scheduled programming!

I'm with Tony on this one..those heads will bust through 700HP with some different parts....but with tight gearing this combo could be a blast!

VERY nice numbers- big torque...whatta nasty street motor that would be!!

Nice. 10 more hp and you'll be hitting what vortecpro is doing with decades old iron heads.
