I've known of their existence since 1973 but I never actually saw one in person until 1984 in Atlanta. To date it is the only one I have actually seen in person. It was Midnight Blue with factory silver stripes (they actually looked white on this dark blue car). The car had a 350 2-barrel and working a/c (windows were up and it was in a traffic jam in Atlanta in the summertime.)

So, WiKi wasn't lying? :)
The only year the SS Chevelle wagon was made...

I have seen a few over the years, but never really looked up close...

I wonder if they got the buckets/floorshift?

My parents had a 77 "Malibu Classic" wagon they special ordered with buckets/console automatic, but they didn't offer the SS anymore...

There used to be one in a town near by years ago. It was kind of a Medium Blue with a Silver bottom. It was a 454 car. That was probably 20-25 years ago.

I owned one, a 350 car, back about 15 years ago. Nothing special really, just badges, turbines, rear sway bar and stripes. Mine had bench seats but they were available with the swivels and console. I believe there were around 600 made.

The ONLY ones I've ever seen in person and print have been that color combo (Blue/Silver bottom). It made me think that was the only color it came until seeing the Gold one above.

I've seen a few as well. It was just a trim package, as mentioned, and not necesarily a full-on performance setup or anything (unfortunately).

Those of us who want a Chevelle wagon that really performs well just have to build them. I'm here to say...it's worth the effort!

funny I was at a yard sale today, guy has a 74 454 th400 3.42 rear wagon Unfortunately he's parting it out. Fortunately I bought the 4 15x8 1 15x7 ralleys 5 caps and 4 8in rings off of it. Its got a sweet running 454, hirise ceramic headers etc with trans for 750 bucks and you can see and hear it run since the car is still complete. jim

There was a guy about 40 miles from me that had a black one with silver on the bottom I think. 454/T-400 buckets console. It was in really nice shape and was for sale about 8 or 10 years ago when I last saw it. He was asking 10 G's for it. At the time it was running a 402 but he still had the #'s matching 454 that went with the car but it had a spun bearing.

To bad I'm in NC, I would have picked that up. :(

They do exist :secret: :D
There was a 73 SS wagon on Ebay awhile back that had 454 4sp, console and buckets, loaded w/creature comfort options and the SS packaged items, sway bars, front discs. The seller had a very high reserve on it as I remember and advertized it like it was the last one out there, it didn't reach reserve and didn't sell.I never heard anything about that car after that.We talked about it in bench but most of us agreed that car was way overpriced and wouldn't sell until the price dropped .
If that wagon JimMac grabbed parts from was on this coast it would be worth 2/3 times what it went for in Az.and I'd be all over it.

These wagons are the classic example of rarity doesnt translate to value. Which makes them more cool IMO. You just dont see them and you can bet your going to get comments at car shows about it not being original or this and that.

unfortunately the guys planning on crushing it after he sells the drivetrain and whatever else (ssbc brakes for 100 bucks.!) He just cant see anyone else driving this car that he's had since 1984. jim

Did you get the engine and trans Jim?

No, I really dont need another motor. as a matter of fact I just sold a std 454 builder 2 weeks ago, still have a runner and 2 other builders in the shed. Not to mention a th400 out of my chevelle (did a 4 speed swap). So Im good on the drivetrain dept. But if I sell some wheels or something this week, I may go back and get the ssbc brakes off of it for my camaro. jim
