Starting in 87, they had alot of upgrades, including the larger input shaft, 28 element input sprag, wider low/rev sprag, auxillary valvebody, and a 10 vane pump. They used this basic design up to 91, then they went electronic 4L60E in some cases, and in 94 were all 4L60E's. You can convert any of them to the later pump, input drum, & sprags. Just can't use the auxillary valvebody on the early ones. The main change with the valvebody was the extra accumulator at the rear of the case, which was designed to give the transmission a smoother "garage shift" as in when you put the transmission into gear, it had a much smoother engagement from park to drive.
