I am back driving my car around and hereing alot of clunks and noises as I turn and move around, I now something is not right, so I get home lift the rear to find both rear wheels with endplay about 3/8 of an inch , I now thats bad news but how bad im not sure , not sure if anything has been done to the rear end, It goes in on tuesday for inspection but was wondering if there is any input from you guys here, I was also noticing vibrations at 70 miles an hour, I do not believe its the front tires out of balance but maybe the drive shaft out of balance , the rear end has 331 gears and also has 10 inch rims with a 396 somewhat pumped up. Thoughts ??

jack the rear of vehicle and properly place jackstands under the rear axle. Chaulk the front tires.
Pull both rear wheels off and take a closer look at the axles. Could be bad axle bearings/grooved axles, and or worn c clips. None of it good. Take pics and post.
I wouldn't drive it until you figure out what's going on.

Yea, if you really have 3/8 inch in/out play, time to pull the cover and see why. C-clip and or groove for clip could be worn well beyond spec. Could also be carrier bearings.

I would pull off the cover and take a look. The axles pulling out like that could be a serious problem.

I agree with these guys. Don’t drive the car and pull the cover off and find out what the problem is before you have an expensive and catastrophic failure.

gonna limp it down town to the shop on tuesday would this issue cause a vibraion when on the freeway at 70 never had this happen before,
If things are bad I will go with a tru trac and change the gearing to 355

I had a 12 bolt that had a vibration once, balanced the wheels several times and was still there. One day a buddy was following me and said "boy your left wheel sure wobbles around a lot" I put the car on jack stands and dropped it into gear. Sure enough I had a bent axle flange. Bought 2 new Motive Gear axles and no more vibrations. Dang they were cheap to at the time, like $75 each.
