I am in the process of installing vent windows/door glass (out of a donor car) on my 68 so I can proceed to aligning the doors and hanging the fenders. BUT, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get the vent windows low enough so they don't interefere at the top.

I know it's not all in the hanging of the door since the door is as low as it will go and I still have just a hair of clearance. Soooo, somehow I need to get that vent window down. Have already used up everything I can in the holes...even notched things a little to get it to sit lower. Am I missing something??? I have tried jacking those funky screws around to get the vent window to "lay down" a bit, but that seems fruitless since there are two screws that attach the upper part to the door.

I've searched the forums here and have not had any luck finding a good description of how to get this job done.

Any inputs appreciated. I'm tired of beating my head against the wall

Ok guys (SS Bums and Bill Rose ), I think Ive got the site info. now. OK do a search in the chevelle tech body shop section. click on search, type in vent window where it says search words, and where it says search in click on subject only, then hit search button. Then when postings come up ,scroll down and click onto : Installed Vent Windows WS! on 03-31-2001. Then scroll down to cjlandry posting on 03-31-2001 09:07pm and click on the url that he has listed there and the article and pics. on vent window removal should come up. Good Luck to You All . Let me know SSBUMS if this works for you . C-YA mARK

Thanks guys...I had seen that site before (nicely done Chad), but my problem is different. I got my windows in...I'm just having a problem adjusting them into proper position. This is not an intuitive process!!!

Chad's site was for an Elky...I believe that those have doors like a sedan...full framed. Mine is a coupe, so you have to get the vent window frame ass'y set up properly to be able to close the door.

Hey Bill Rose, Nice looking 68 Chevelle. What is that paint code and color name on your chevelle? Is it painted in basecoat/clearcoat? PPG or Dupont paint? Does your 68 have the astro. vent balls? Some 68S with air had the astro. vent balls , even thou they had wing windows. Does your 68 ,in the door jamb area solid without the plastic vents ? Good talking with you. Thanks,Mark

Bo...This is how my 68 looks today. It's real close to the end. It still needs the front bumper installed, all 8 pieces of glass, a headliner, door panels, (which can't go in till the glass is in) and a few minor finishing touches. The car is Grecian Green with black vinyl int. , buckets and console. It is Sherwin-Williams Base/clear. The paint codes don't go back to 68 so they computer match the trim tag code to the closest paint available today. This is, and yes I will admit it, Ford truck 1998-99.).The paint code is H2. The H is the paint & the 2 is black vinyl top. It doesn't have air (which I didn't want) so there are no round vents in the dash. The door jams also have no vents because astro ventalation didn't start till 69.It has vent windows (that are not in the pic cause they are being re-chromed...Bill

Bill, your chevelle really looks sharp. I like the clearence it has between the floor and the bottom of the body. I like that look of plenty of clearence and the car sitting level. What kind of shocks do you have on the back? Do you have the reg. coil springs in front or big block col springs? My other chevelle (daily driver) is a 69 chevelle and I gave it that look also. I put big block coil springs in front, and air shocks in back, but not pumped up all the way.It rides better that way. I may put a good set of shocks on back and a set of air bags in the coil springs instead of air shocks. Those red line tires go good with that color of your car. Thanks for the pic of your chevelle Bill, I enjoyed it. Thanks, Mark

Mark...My 68 has it's original 396 BB. The springs front and rear are BB springs. The shock are original spiral shocks. I did have to cut (with a torch) an inch off all 4 coil springs to get it to sit where I wanted it. Now I hope it doesn't drop much in the coming years or I'll be replacing the springs....Bill
