Can someone show me via a picture or a drawing how the Z bar return spring bracket mounts to the firewall? Right now there are two springs hooked together which hook to the frame that functions as the return spring. I know this is not right. I can not find any drawings or pictures in service manuals or parts books that show where and how the spring bracket is attached to firewall. All they show is the bracket either in space or with no identification showing the firewall attachment location.

Thanks.

Looked the picture in the Ground Up Catalog but I don't see how or where it attaches to the firewall.

Still looking for where this bracket attaches to the firewall.

Thanks a bunch for the picture!! As they say, a picture is worth...... If the measurements are not too difficult to make, sure would appreciate them. Two question; is it welded to the wirewall?

Also, the one I have has a little tab on the end that goes on the wirewall. Does this tab have any use for locating the bracket?

Again thanks for the picture.

Nevada, what was the final outcome? I just tried to put my new springs on last night and realized mine no longer had evidence of the bracket after someone patched the floor. I'm standing there with a new bracket and springs in my hand with absolutly no clue. I wish mine looked like Mike S's above!

Not a problem. I will get them and post 'em for you. Yea, vaguely remember a tab, can't remember if it is oriented to the left or right though.
please I need them too

Sorry, I never got any measurements from Loader1. Left the old installation in until I can figure out how and where to mount the bracket. I am assuming that the bracket is welded on because I can find no other obvious means of fastening it to the firewall. I, like you, need a couple of reference measurements so I can get it close to the proper location. Hopefully, Loader1 will see this and it will jog his memory about the measurements.

yes it is spot wledeld to the firewall

I do not know if this photo will help any and I can't measure because the car has been sold. The bracket is inline with the z-bar arm so the spring has a straight pull.

Thanks much Philip! The picture does help. I can now estimate pretty well the braket location using where the speedo cable comes out of the firewall and the spring bracket location on the Z-shaft.

Appreciate everyones help!

Hey everyone,

Sorry I left you all hanging but when I went out to measure it , I realized that my son had borrowed my floor jack, and it is still MIA. However, I just went out and took a measurement that will do the trick.
The distance from the CENTER of the Z BAR CROSS SHAFT to the furthest end of the tab is 10 INCHES. It is straight down in alignment, with the L portion of the tab facing the trans. By straight down I mean if you are at the front of the car sighting from where the upper end of the return spring goes through the Z BAR to where the spring goes through the tab.
:clonk: Sorry I forgot about this one, you should have reminded me w/a PM.
