Well it's finally time. My Christmas present from my wife was a day with Andy Jensen to dyno my bracket motor. It is a catalog built engine so I am not expecting huge numbers. I am more so looking for gains over how it came out of the car. The car is a 3170 lbs bracket car and has gone 9.0s at 148. So have at it. I'll let you know if I am disappointed tomorrow night. I am hoping to find 25-30 hp.

The only number i'd worry about is the avg tq on the last pull minus avg Tq on the first pull. Thats what you're paying for, improvement. I'd run it as close to what you have in the car as possible, especially headers. I like to use my fuel pressure regulator, ing box, and wideband O2.

Keep an eye on water temps, the dyno water supply can be very large sometimes and guys will run the engine way cooler then what you are going to see in the car, at the track.

If Andy Jensen is doing the tuning i would expect decent gains.

Do you have a carb with adjustable air bleeds?

Just a quick update. Andy found 21 hp.

Final numbers:

910 hp at 7100
776 tq at 5800.
So it was 889 initially? :D

21 additional will get you a mph and and a 8.xx slip on the right day.

It was actually 885. I had retarded the timing to 36 before putting it on the dyno. But it did make 889 on the first pull and then dropped back to 885 when I moved the timing BACK to 40 as it was the last time to the track. So I guess technically we found 25.

Very respectful Ray!

Did you assemble the motor and select the parts yourself?
I had selected all the parts. This last time it was freshened I had the crank and pistons put in at the machine shop due to work requirements. But I did assemble the rest myself at home.

Very nice Ray,, that is a stout one for sure

You need to list the build or link to it,, inquiring minds & all that ................ :beers:

Good job Ray. What was the final timing? Did you play with the lash at all?
We did move the timing from 36 to 40 and it made 4 hp more at 36 than 40. We set the rockers per the cam card hot and then opened the intake up .003 per Chris and it made another 5 hp on the lash change.
