Hello all, first post here. We have a '71 Chevelle that we put a 496 Stroker in from Blueprint and are having some high temps issues. At speed the temp is perfect at 180 but at a stop light it will climb to 220-230, then come right back down when up to speed. We're thinking the mechanical fan on the motor isn't providing enough airflow for the motor so wanted to get a recommendation from the masses. Thanx in advance.

- I'll list my thoughts in order of importance:

1) Install a factory reproduction big block shroud. -by far your biggest problem
2) install a factory reproduction 7 blade fan and heavy duty clutch.
if you still have issues then you will have to also upgrade the radiator, but since it is cooling fine at road speed the shroud and fan should take care of it easily.

Something like these:

1971-1975 Chevrolet Big Block Fan Shroud For 28 Inch Core (ss396.com)

1971-1975 Chevrolet Big Block Fan Shroud For 26 Inch Core (ss396.com)

1969-1977 Chevrolet Fan And Clutch Kit 7 Blade for Long Water Pump (ss396.com)

Do what Bob says and all will be COOL MAN! ;) no jest. Its an engineered system that works mint. I use a Hayden mech clutch setup from an 80's Z that is very similar. Shroud lets the fan pull. No shroud, no pull, ESPECIALLY AT IDLE> so it's not the rad, it's the "supporting cast" you need to pull together.
