ok for all you guys that have big blocks that are capable of running 11-12sec easily show me and tell what is needed lol

i was directed to this site from a guy off nastyz28.com, he said u guys have BBC and heavy cars that run fast...

so what can i do or expect outta mine ?? i dont have a chevelle but i have a 81 camaro with a 468 BBC, the crank and rods are stock cast, heads are open chamber style (049's), pistons are .30 over sealed power hyperutectic, the part # of the cam is 60205LK(2500-6500rpm) 284 int./292 exh. 0.572 int./0.590 exh. lift, x-celerator weiand single plain aluminum intake #7544(1500-6000rpm), has 7/16 hardened pushrods, clevite high volume oil pump, TH350trans that is rebuilt with b&m master racing overhaul kit and b&m transpak stage 2 shift kit. i think the stall is a 2500-3000 checked using the line lock and the tires came loose at 2500rpm???...... holley electric fuel pump, Holley 750 double pump carb, stock rear end with 3:08 gears and a posi, heddmen race long tube headers 1-7/8" or 2" to 3" or 3.5" collector, dual 2.5" woth 40 series flowmasters, also have dumps right off the headers when needed

i havent ran it at the track yet, BUT buddy that had it before me says he had it at the track and ran a 13.6@106mph but he cant member exactly the mph tho cant find the slip either, and apprently he says the car spun pretty well the entire 1/4 mile with 275/60/15 BFG Radial T/A's (we all they are ****ty tires LOL)

any help with what i have now or what should i expect outta mine ?

A bigger stall will help and gears in the rear will defiantly wake it up. the only true way to find out compression ratio is to cc the heads and calculate it with the dome size of the pistons. the way it sits with the radials and 3.08's you should be able to dip into the high 12's pretty simply. Also what carb do you have on there

also i forgot to add, that i know guy with cars that run low to mid 13's in his camaro 400ft/lbs and like 275HP and what not, and mine seems to feel like it pulls as hard enough a bit harder as what his did but he was stick and im auto which might have something to do with it feeling like alot of snot...and another buddy has a loow 14sec caprice and it feels a bit slower them mine for sure..

i dunno i just dont wanna be dissappointed with like a 13.5 or higher 1/4 pass in it.....that or im expect too much outta what i have.. i do have a video of my running and taking off to show you guys how fast she can snap the needle if that would help too lol

I was in the same boat as you
thought i was gonna be in the 13.7 range, when I went to the track I ran a 13.37 with bald street tires and a full tank of 87, I've got less cubes than you but were probably pretty close as of hp numbers. and your camaro weighs a little less than my elcamino. the only thing hurting you is the stall and gears.

well my cam calls for a 3000stall, and 4:10 gears, and 10.5:1 compression

i figure im gonna go with some 4:10's in before anything tho, i dunno whether it should have that much more of a stall in it or not, if i went bigger how much biogger should i be going ? member i drive this on the street... it mostly see's street then strip too

also apprently my motor came out of a older el camino too,

here is a video of the car running, and shows ya how fast she can snap the needle around, the speedo is a bit off due to the rear tires being bigger then stock as well, i think 120km on my speedo is like 100km or around that area tho.. i think the speedo is 20km faster then ya are actually travelling

284 cam will really like 10.25 to 10.5 to 1 CR..

Imho, you should install only 3.31's or 3.36's or 3.55's and let T grunt you right on down the road!! Big motors like ta grunt b/c they are, well, big..

And don't detonate hyper's or you will get MAD!!

pdq67

u think that all the gearing i need for this thing ?? i wanna go with some 4:10's lol

and what ya mean by dont detonate hypers or you will get mad ?? i dunno what ya mean by that lol sorry....

If you look on the posts using SEARCH, you will see more than a few people have shattered Hyper E pistons. They are tough but not invincible. Detonation can kill them so pay attention to your ign curve.

Remember, 4.11s will make your car a 'local' car only unti you go OD trans.
3.55, 3.42, 3.31 are good dual purpose gears..

hmmmmmm, well we have figured it out that i dont plan on driving my car any further then 2hours away from my area, and we used a rpm calculator and with my 308 now i run at 2500rpm at 100km and with some 410 i should be at 3058rpm at 100km which isnt all that bad, and for running at the drag strip a buddy of mine up the street said he can pull it to the track with his fully enclosed car trailer :)

dont drive it much anyway usually just run it around from town to town we live in a area were it a bunch of small town like 5-20 mins away from each other before hitting the bigger cities here, and i mostly just run from one small town to another on weekends for cruising...

and yes i think it on the lower side for compression from what i have been gathering about it, it prolly around stock CR or a little higher prolly nothing higher then 9.5 tho im thinking.....cuz that video is it running on 87 octance

GET A 12 BOLT REAR!!!!!
THEN a set of 3.73s & get rid of the singleplane intake for a 'good' dual plane.
that cam really needs a 3000 stall conv. too.
