looking at a .040 over sb400, 13.5.1 compression,

ported rhs heads, 230cc, no flow data
wondering how to cam this, and hp potential on 110 race fuel

new 56 2dr post, need a motor for racing season

Call Bullet, they'll set you up right with a good cam.

Since the heads have been ported and we don't know what they flow there is no way to correctly cam it until you get flow numbers. A guess is all someone can do and for what stuff cost today...who wants an engine built on guess work.

that was my first thought. the guy isnt gonna let me tear a head off and have it flow benched though

What cam is in it now? and does the engine run good? If so why need a new cam?

Then he needs to understand that with ported heads it is guess of what will work. He might as well just pick one out of a catalog.

If you want a serious SBC racer, I’d pull the heads and get those 18 degree heads, a cam to match and torque converter to match, Chris posted the heads a few days ago. All you can assume is the heads are just as cast RHS and cam off that and hope you’re close, but you more then likely will be doing it twice. Do you know what stall is in it?

I believe you have to buy the kit including pistons.
Unless ya have 18* pistons

Asking a seller to take an engine apart just so some one can take a look and might buy it is not going to happen. Pull a valve cover and check #'s, rockers and roller or not.
Do not pay for questions that don't get good answers.
Or walk away. Too many out there.
Junk yard 5.3 and nitrous until it doesn't.

Yeah , didn’t even think about that, scratch that

Assuming they were not a professional head porter and just a machine shop with a grinder, use the as cast flow numbers and call up and have the cam picked. Many people use "ported" loosely, and many engines are out there with "advertised" flow numbers on the heads.

its my 56, just starting the build ,9in ,leaf springs relocated any gear i want, powerglide, i have 2 diff 8in convertors, one went 4200 and 1 went 5100 behind a healthy 496

he said it went 114 mph at 2400lbs, that shows 540hp on wallace calculator i think

i was thinking a high compression 406 with a big head had some more in it, it has a solid roller in it, no specs currently,
im shooting for 9.90s, dont know if this will be enough motor,
my current car runs 6.90 at 3300lbs at 3800da. wanna go faster with the 56

9.90's = 496 +
The bigger the easier but the priciest.
Even if the engine is capable, the rest of the car is not likely ready.
If you yourself have never gone that fast you should start in the 11's.
A car in the 10's + usually has a fairly violent start and from the burn out to the 1/8 is a busy time for drivers.

This is a 406 SBC, AFR220 heads, 12.5 to 1 compression. Engine builder thought there was more and called me for a camshaft. This is a comparison of before and after cam swap.
