I'm converting my car to a console and I've almost rounded up all the parts. My question is about the plastic "slider" that goes around the shifter handle and blocks off the inside of the console where the shifter comes out. This is a two piece part that moves along with the shifter but I've only found the part that moves up and down. They have this one all over the internet. There is another piece that slides inside of that one and moves left and right. I can't find this anywhere. I found the part number in my assembly manual but my search has come up dry. Anyone know where to find this?! Thanks!

Don't mess with the part that moves side to side. It is a waste of time. If you are using a Hurst Shifter, you most likely won't be able to use the slider that goes fore and aft. Where the shifter handle bolts to shifter it will stick up above the slider looking unsightly. With the Hurst shifter, it looks best to have the boot come up over the bolted section. But with that, you can't use the slider.

Woj, I have a muncie shifter so fit is not the issue but I appreciate the help for any future shifter changes.

Tunes, I appreciate the info, also. I too have been around quite a few 69s at shows but the problem is I've just never paid any attention to the inner part of the console until now. The only ones I could find on the internet show the inside with nothing there like Woj was suggesting. I have the fore and aft piece already because I ordered it thinking I'd get both, so I'd really like to go ahead with this and try and find it if they did make it.

I used a black motorcycle number plate to make my own slider for my 68 Z/28. Another good black plastic supply is those small black garbage cans. Get one and cut out your piece and throw the rest in your material pile.

I have the side to side piece on my 69 SS, it has fallen out of the groove and just hangs on the shifter handle below the fore and aft shift plate. It is a piece of hard rubber that I would imagine did not do much good. It is deformed and doubt that I could get it into its slot if I tried. If I can remember later this weekend, I'll post a photo or two.

I fabricated the left-to-right slider from an old black plastic VHS cassette case. I have a Hurst shifter on my M-20 and both sliders fit and function. The left-to-right slider tends to pop out during a speed shift though.

Also fabed up my own using 1/8 thick black plastic. Took a little trial and error to get the side to side dimensions correct. Have never had it pop out or come loose since installed over 10 years ago. Hurst shifter.

69 Chevelle Guy; I assume you are installing the slider to be " correct ". If not you may want to conside another route. The sliders are flimsy and noisy. I toyed around with a slider in mine for a while and decided to go with the tunnel although it is not correct for a 69 it is more practical. I believe the slider was only used in 68 & 69 although the same basic style console was used for three more years. There was probably a reason the slider was discontinued.
